Modified vehicle certifiers

Postby Luke - BZG » Thu Aug 11, 2011 4:24 pm

The Supra is ready to get certified and I'm just wondering if anyone has used Mark Russell in Lower Hutt before?

The only other guy in Welly is Ken McAdam who I went down and spoke to and he seems like an arrogant asshole.

cheers :)

I would be interested too, I thought that Ken was the only one left in the area. I've used Ken years ago (about 7 years ago) and he was very very picky. Which I guess isn't a bad thing.

You gotta put up a nasty front if you have to deal with the f**kwits he has to deal with on a day to day basis

TBH i've dealt with ken a few times (had approx 4 certs done by him) and he's always been reasonable and equitable. I found being there when he does the check helps alot as you can fix anything minor, or challenge him on something he doesnt like.

Is Shane a commercial certifer? (aka will deal with the public) as alot of the people on the list in wgtn are constructors car club and will only deal with their club members

Ken is an arrogant asshole, and isn`t interested in you or your car at all... I suggest looking anywhere else for a cert.

Nice thread Luke :)

Who installed your driveshaft hoop if you dont mind me asking? And what one did you buy? Did you snap any pics while it was getting put in? I would be keen to see exactly where it was positioned.

I also need to get my car certified, but will hold off until the new gearbox and DS hoop goes in, so its all done in one foul swoop and doesnt cost me more to get checked again later on.

Its a shame that there seems to be such a limited amount of guys you can get certified through, and even worse that those that do it are reknowned for being arrogant.

Ill be watching this thread to see how you get on

I've used both before and yes ken is a arrogant asshole, mark is all good and fair. Not as easy a pass as andrew ward was but still a lot easier to deal with than ken.

Good to hear, what vehicle and mods did you get Mark to cert? Did you just give him a ring and organise a time?

Maybe Ken was having a bad day when he spoke to me, but I'd still much rather give my money to someone else.

I had a friend Edhouse I met through Girvs install it at Midas in Porirua, I think he got the hoop from BNT, he has installed many before and knows the bolt spec and installation specs needed for a cert.

I didn't get any pictures but had a look while it was on the hoist and there is plenty of clearance and it looks good. Its installed quite close to the rear of the gearbox, needs to be withing 15cm of the coupling I believe.

That because that $&#$% was passing cars sight unseen, not to mention a number of cars passed by him as conversions may well have been reshelled stolen vehicles.

is it a rule here, or just a guideline, that any time somebody says "sister" somebody else has to say "pics of sister?"

But yeah, that'd be Dan Edhouse 8)

No Mark Edhouse works at Midas. You're talking about the wrong person. Muppet (Mark Also works at Midas). I think you're confused.

It's ok, I wind up Dan about everything anyway. Plus I'm almost certain I've actually met his sister at least once if not more than once, while visiting Dan on vehicular matters.

Thanks for the info Luke.

How much did it cost for the job, including the parts and labour please? I was going to do it myself when I swap boxes, but if its not too dear I may as well just get it done where you did.

Does he do them out of work time, or just through the books during work hours? Im really keen get this sorted so of you have any contact details for the man, that would be appreciated.

I will keep watching this thread to see who you end up getting a cert from, and how you found the experience lol.

Your car will sail through anyway :)

Ken wasnt bad to deal with when I had the racecar certed and then re-certed again a year or so later.

Only problem was it took all day each time (not the quoted hour or so).

If your straight up with what has been done / list of items, go visit with said list prior to arriving with the vehicle (so he has time to check the regs on the particular items) .

We even tested the car for the exhaust noise twice, and I wasn't charged <it passed honest officer>

This was a few years ago however, and only the 2nd and 3rd time he'd certed the same car
