Touch Screen Headunits

Postby true?no » Wed Aug 17, 2011 6:54 pm

I looking at getting a double din touch screen headunit in my Altezza, any one have one they would recommend? The ones i have seen by reputable brands are around the $1000 mark but i have seen cheap crap on Tardme, has anyone had any experience with the cheap brands? my gut tells me to stay away from ones like this ==> http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-ste ... 698286.htm
I like the idea of having GPS and really want bluetooth in it. Just not sure how reliable it would be.

What are you guys thoughts?

If you end up going for cheap crap, you may as well buy direct from China, lots of places around that sell them. By the time you allow for sending faulty items back though, it's often not worth bothering with warranty. I buy stuff from such sites, but do so knowing that if it breaks I throw it away.

Just do your research though to make sure the actual specs match what they say they are.

One example: http://www.dinodirect.com/car-dvd-playe ... y-NZD.html

Stack of examples: http://www.dinodirect.com/cars-audio-vi ... y-NZD.html

Another place: www.aliexpress.com probably 100's of places if you look around.

Buying a known brand locally will always be the safer option, but you do pay for that.

I'm not recommending you buy from the above stores, or any of the examples, just showing you whats out there. At the end of the day items of trademe come from shops like the above.

I have a single din jensen motorised 7" touchscreen dvd player. I think the newer model of these have bluetooth. They now retail for just over 700 I think. I got mine as ex demo from repco for about half that I think. I will pre warn you though, my car is quite bouncy and I find it very hard to operate the touchscreen while driving. You can't just feel for the buttons.

My advice, buy a good quality one as it will last you a good 10 years and even if it gets out dated in technology it will still do what its designed for very well.
