Insurance help/advice needed

I called my insurance company (FMG) today to declare all my mods ive done to my car. Upon calling them they told me that i will no longer be insured for fire and theft because of the amount of mods my car has but they will still do 3rd party.

Can anyone recommend me an insurance company that will insure a 19yo, full license, clean driving record and a modified car for 3rd party fire and theft?

Engine
-Full Exhaust system

Interior
-EL44 cynos/paseo front seats
-Fire Extinguisher

Is that even road legal without a cert with different brakes / camber plates? If it's not, then even 3rd party is probably not going to be covered. Unless you have a cert?

May be bad advice (i'm sure someone will pull it up) But I wouldn't worry about mentioning seats / fire extinguisher / exhaust. I'm assuming the seats are all bolt in directly with no mods.

It's the last part of the list + mags/kit that will cause you the most grief when trying to get insurance. Not sure you'll get much luck with the typical insurance places. With that list you're looking at more specialist places that cover modified cars.

I was told that I didnt require a cert as the brakes were just off a higher model starlet. I cant find anything on the lvvta website about camber plates.

I will be getting a cert once i have the new engine in.

The seats were a direct bolt. I thought i might as well mention the exhaust as its technically a performance mod.

The brakes wont require a cert but the camber plates will.

Cheers for clearing that up, i would have thought that the plates wouldnt require a cert as its just adding another wheel alignment option?

lowering is one of the biggest things for insurance companies. Thats why I never lowered any of my cars after my first FXGT. Even with my RX8 they didn't ask about anything aside from 'is it a rotary?' and 'is it lowered?'. After which I would have to repeat IT IS FACTORY but has an aftermarket intake.... and they didn't give a shit about the intake even though it made a freakin racket.

clic is part of AMI and AMI had to be bailed out by the govt after the christchurch quakes so i wouldnt go near them.

Except AMI never took the money, they weren't bailed out, they just made plans for if the claims exceeded what they had reinsurance for.
Why thats a reason to avoid them I don't know.. Your $10-20K car claim isn't exactly likely to send them running to the govt for money.

Your brake balance still ok? I am assuming that the GT Starlet front brakes are running a different piston than your normal brakes were, but you are probably still running the same master cylinder, and also rear drums?

My old EP8x non turbo Starlet did get very very hot brakes while doing a Sealed Sprint. Nice burny smells at the end of the run.

So which insurance company do you work for? Can't think of any reason for your statement if you don't as you certainly look misinformed. I'd be careful making such claims if you don't actually know the facts.

Don't work for an insurance company but we do insurance as well. You want facts then do your own research as I've done my own. One point is the fact that AMI had to put their hand out for assistance is an indicator that things aren't great for them. Even if they did not take/need the help in the end, customers will and have started to lose faith in them meaning loss of customers and therefore loss of money from premiums, reputation starts going down etc etc. Sure my 20k claim might be accepted now but what happens when/if another quake hits and they got more millions to pay out. I don't need to point out the obvisious.

so i wouldnt go near them


Keyword in there is "I" as its my personal preference. If you guys want to go with them, then by all means do as its your choice end of the day.

The day AMI asked for the govt garuntee was the day their business started to loose value and customers.

So logic says they'll become a small player, and at greater risk of failing in the future, due to a smaller customer base.
Tower have already stated they are looking at buying AMI (well their policies anyway).

But what annoys me and is lightly off topic, is that AMI knows its got a govt garuntee there, and they've already payed the $500,000 or whatever it was for the option of taking out the garuntee. So now they are at an advantage to all other insurance companies, as they can take on more risk, knowing that it won't cost them at all.
In my opinion as soon as they asked for the garuntee, the govt should have taken over the company, or at the very least demanded oversight of its policy offers to check they weren't taking on any more risk.

Brake balance is the same since my old caliper fitted the gt carriers. I'm still using the factory master cyl and rear drum setup.
