See my last post.. When I brought the Forester it'd done 80,000.. First claim was at 110,000 clutch.. And then gearbox then another gearbox and then turbo.

It's a bit harsh saying it's only for min wage people...

It's funny how they call it a "warranty" when it's not.
It's really just an insurance policy by another name. Insurance companies always make money (well not when the ground shakes).
So it's worked out using statistics, on average you'll be better off financially if you don't take one out. They use the fear factor to make a sale.
As far as consumer electronics go, most things are cheap, reliable and throw away. Designed to last no more that 3 years or when the warranty runs out.
Places like next wouldn't exist without extended warranties.

You don't need to if the seller is aware of the law and stands by their product, the only time you would need to do that is if there was a dispute on the fault, or the seller was breaking the law.

As stated above, mechanical warranties are not true "warranties".

For starters you have to pay excess to get work done.
Another problem, if you are someone like me and do all my work on the car, the mechanical warranty is irrelevant because you will be paying premium on servicing, and other minor work.
Then comes the "non-included" parts, and disputes about the nature of failure.

Dealers sell warranty because they get commission and they offload mechanical failures (that normally are covered by CGA at some extent) to insurance company.

Not all warrenties are created equal.

I had 4th gear synchro replaced in my Corolla under a Toyota Warrenty - only part I had to pay for was a clutch as I asked them to replace it while the gearbox was out.

Water pump started leaking, again no excess or additional charges. New pump + coolant paid for under warrenty.
