Celica-Supra steering lock (moar please)

Postby Brawler » Sun Sep 04, 2011 11:17 am

Ok so if you have driven one of these cars, you know they are whales on land, the full steering lock is terrible.

Ok so I bought some coilovers steering rack etc from this car:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MOfbcltI ... er&list=UL
some of you may know the car

Anyway, I found some spacers on the ends of the rack ends, I know this gives you a little more lock.

Also with the parts, were shorter steering knuckles, and What my question is, Do shorter steering knuckles give you more lock, or would longer ones be the go? as they are longer on the celica.

kthx

check your clearances before you go swapping bits over, there might be a good reason it has such a shitty steering lock from factory.. like the wheels hitting the guards/chassis rail or something.
Reality: A nasty hallucination that is caused by excess blood in the alcohol stream.

Sweet, can't wait to try it. I Shouldnt be hitting anything on full lock anyway, as I will be running 15" wheels with low pros = smaller than factory wheels.

Cheers

Customer Reviews

"hahaha! This is unreal now I never spin"

"I'm a legend of the u-turn now!"

just make me add things to the to buy list eh hahaha

I have spun out while counter steering at full lock in my car many times, It is possible that the lock is that terrible that it struggles to cope with the long wheel base, its either that or im doing something wrong.

How much extra lock did you get out of having those spacers?

I think the problem you will incounter - I think i could be wrong, is the celica/supra runs the biggest toyota ball joint and the steering knuckles are 145mm long and 90 mm bolt spacing. You can get carina one's that are 125mm long and 90mm bolt spacing but they run a smaller ball joint so you either have to get the taper machined to suit in the knuckle or rose joint some bottom arms with the correct ball joint as what im doing in my starlet, i suffer the same problem as it has celica/supra/cressida struts in the front with the big gay ball joint and big long ball steering arms and next to no lock

So your saying the ball joint is different?

The coilovers I have been running, Were straight off the carina and into the soup, just bolted them up above the ball joint. Not sure where your coming from?
