Automatic Transmission Sump Removal

What's the best way to break the seal? I know Toyota workshop manual says use a special scraper, I have seen someone hitting the sump with a rubber mallet. If i cant get it off, can anyone help me on the North Shore? Can buy a box of beers or reimburse for fuel cost etc.

usually no different from removing any sump really.

Lite taps with a soft-faced hammer to loosen the seal or gently wedge a thin headed flat blade screwdriver under it & gently pry it up to break the seal.

tip for when it comes time to put it back,

make sure BOTH surfaces are void of any gasket or liquid gasket otherwise you will find you dont get a full seal & it will leak.

also when doing up the bolts after you have cleaned it up don't do them up to tight or you can bend the pan where each bolt goes and it will leak. Let the gasket do the sealing just make sure it is tight enough...or it will leak

I will try a rubber mallet tomorrow. It's very hard to get a screwdriver in there due to the location of this sump, there is not enough room to fit a screwdriver and give it a tap with a hammer. I think with engine sump you have a lot more space for the screwdriver.

Only ever has a subaru one apart and it was out of the car.

It's been leaking oil since I have purchased the car from the transmission sump. So I am planning on resealing it and putting some fresh oil in it.

people usually damage them when they pry them off, which half the time must be done
when you get it off check it for being flat, it may require a bit of panel beating,

Wedge very slightly with a screwdriver etc then get a paint scraper in there and work it along sideways to cut thru the silicone. Once you've done one side you can then usually pry the little bugger apart with no drama.
