If it's a clickclickclickclick around corners then yes, almost definitely a shagged CV. Its' its' just one big clunk when it gets to full lock then it could be several other things, could you be a little more descriptive?

Yeah, I'd replace the CV then. Normally when only one side is doing it, you'd possibly find that the boot is split and has allowed the grease out meaning that it wears out earlier than the other side. If the boot is intact, you might find that they're both clicking to some degree. Cheap to replace, normally $80-$120 each outer CV depending on the car, about an hour a side to swap them.

Just drive it. If it affected your safety or cost more to fix later on or will wear out/break something else, then it's something that needs attention, but it only affects your ears, nothing more.
Drive it in reverse at full lock, left & right, for a circle or 3. My noise has disappeared for over 6 months.

A worn CV does not fix itself, the inner cage slots wear allowing the ball bearings to slop around as they move in and out of the outer cup during turning, which causes the clicking. Eventually the inner cage cracks or shatters, losing you all drive..

I've had a few let go on me now, enough to make me understand that you can only get away with the clicking for so long before they leave you stranded in the middle of nowhere at night!

Yes, they don't fix themselves.
Noise does not mean imminent and/or catastrophic failure, noise can & does sometimes go away, and it can stay noisy for thousands of kilometers/miles without failure.
When it starts making noise in a straight line besides turning, that's at the end of its life if you're worried about its reliability or don't have the time to fix it right now.
