Ae86 20v conversion question

Postby AE86fan » Mon Oct 24, 2011 3:11 pm

Ok, after alot of thought I have decided to ditch my 16v turbo setup. It hasnt been an easy decision as I know Im never going to get the same power with NA.

I have been really wanting to stay away from a 20v head as I reckon the car would lose its originality (yes I know it wasn't original with the turbo) but it may be the cheapest option as I have a heap of 20v parts and could put an engine together pretty cheap.

My biggest issue is the 20v distributor location. Im already running a link with a multi coil setup and CAS, what I want to know is what is involved in using the 20v distributor as a signal for the computer?

The other issues such as water pipes, vvti switching etc Im sure I can find enough info elsewhere.

if your using a late ze cas or smallport dizzy. your good to go with the 20v dizzy, as they put out the same signals. just ditch the dizzy cap and put a low line cap on it to gain room.

i take it your running a g1 link? if you have a g3/4 doesn't matter as can be setup for what ever.

Thanks, how can you tell if its a later model CAS? Im running a G1 link which Im going to have to retune for NA and smaller injector size but other than that I figure it will be a cheaper performance gain than rebuilding a 16v with cams and more compression.

sorry i just meant if it has cas will be all good, they run 24 tooth plus sync setup, same as 20v.

you'l probably want to tune it in tps mod, due to the itb's on 20v

you can get a decent amount of compression out of a 16v with smallport pistons + head skim & trd gasket. but cams pretty pricey as you say, by the time you buy springs as well.

ive got a quad throttle setup going cheap for a smallport i could sell ya :D
