Hi guys,
my gearbox swap is going to be happening in the next few weeks and as such, I will be needing some new oil.

Does anybody here have a good line on Redline oils, or more specifically MT90?

Or you could go with Motul oil which is far better.

And for a MT90 is priced around the same.

I used to cry everytime I put 8 bottles of Redline in my transaxle, every 500kms.
Now I bring it in direct from the states... I just snivel.

I spend alot of time on BITOG, and am genuinely interested in what seperates good oils from bad oils, so any info you have on what Motul you recommend, and why, and price, it will be graciously received.

i had a notchy c52 gearbox, replaced oil with trans fluid (cause i had plenty and didnt want to waste money on the fwd box) and gearbox was heaps smoother to use and notchiness gone.

ATF can do the same thing

I've used both brands in my gearbox. Redline stuff didnt last too long until it polished all the syncro cones up in my box making my shifts slow. As in 1.5 years of race use.

If the car is just an everyday car then your prob best to run a castrol oil from repco which would be way cheaper.

What redline oil were you using please mate? I know the shockproof stuff is reknowned for doing what happened to your gearbox due to the additives, but I have not seen it happen to anyone I know running MT90 in an R154.

thats because shockproof is not designed to be used with synchros
i dont think redline is the majic juice some people make it out to be

I guess it depends entirely on the gearbox and oil type selected though mate.

Some boxes work well with certain oils, some dont. Its a case of trial and error for most poeple unless you know alot of people running that exact combo.

In my case, the R154 has a HUGE history of loving MT90. Its been proven beyond all doubt to help with its "truck like" shifting, as verified by hundreds of people on the US supra forums who have transformed their boxes by running it.

Im going to do some research on BITOG for the Motul oil than Barry recommended, before I make any decisons though.

I've been using Redline Lightweight Shockproof gear oil for the last few years in my EVO, and never had a problem even a full year of track racing, a street sprint and drag racing.

Im interested to hear about this i have a w5X behind a 7m-gte that's pretty unhappy, running castrol vmx oil currently maybe some redline MT90 might be the goer

I will add in my love for the MT90, defiantly helped my R154 out, 1st to 2nd is still slower that i would like, but 3rd to 2nd seemed to get faster and the rest of the gears dont give any complaints and generally feel as they should.

I was running castrol in my W58, and found it a little bit notchy. I changed to MT90 and its smoother, quieter, and shifts easier.
