Nice project! Love seeing some engineering/experimenting ;)

Any reason you used curved tubes instead of straight ones? wouldn't straight give smoother flow and more power?
Cheers,

have to run curved so they will fit inside air box ,if they are straight ,they would go through the bonnet

also they dont loose much over the straight ,look at the black top 20v motors there ram tubes are worse but still works

not allowed bonnet scoops in our racing class, different engines yes ,but must have all steel bonets, guards and doors only allowences are rear spoiler and frt spoiler in fibre glass

also before i went up to the 80mm ramtube was using 30mm and making 204kws at back wheels at 9200 rpm
now only making 190 kws at 8800 but i have fatter hp from 4800 up to 8500 making 25kws to 20kws above the 30mm ram tube and also the torque is higher right though till 8000 rpm when it starts to taper down

Fair enough... I was about to add that to the end of my last post because I figured that was the reason.

Nice power under the curve gains, should make it a little better to drive

Nice engineering/experimenting - do you have dyno plots to show the difference with the different throttles? Out of interest, what else is done to this engine to produce and make that kind of power, thats really impressive!

14.5 to 1 forged pistons 14.65mm lift cams 260 at 50 thou with 1and half teeth of vvti on both ,steel valves 1mm oversize longer forged rod .complete head port jobbie with quad throttle and 50mm quad throttles and 2 stage injection bolted up plus curved ram tube s plus i use 2 different header set ups 4,2 into 1 and also 4into 1
also E85 fuel
with short ram tube at 5 its 88kws at 6 132kws at 7 164 kws at 8 its 194kws at 9200 it 204 kws
new set up at 5 its 108kws at 6 its 151 kws at 7 168kws at 8 183kws at 8800 rpm its 190 after this it holds the same power

From the link in first post:

Thanks for putting those up Glen, 20kw through the midrange is definitely worth sacrificing top end for. Do you switch them around for different tracks?

i havnt yet as it will be good from coming out of tight corners
but im playing around with 2 ram tubes 1 inside the other with about a 10mm gap like they use to do in super bikes .this way might give me both worlds

Very nice, I'm quietly pleased to see its that aggressive a setup haha. I tuned a 2.2litre NA Honda a couple of weeks ago which made just over 190kw and we had a big back patting session about how we'd got a pretty hard to match power/power delivery level for a naturally aspirated street friendly motor - never expected to read a couple of weeks later that a 3SGE in any state of tune would be making more power, though if I was going to read that I'd much prefer that it was something as mental as it looks like it is haha.

The H22A is making less power, but is focussed at being a street(ish) friendly build and makes the most of having VTEC and more ccs to get away with that - for comparison at 5000rpm we had 120kw, 6000rpm = 145kw, 7000rpm = 180kw, 8000rpm = 190kw and then power levels off. This is running a Skunk2 Pro-series single throttle intake manifold.

Very impressive results. Nearly makes me want to throw the blacktop 4age away and step up to the 2l class!
