+1 doing a burnout is easy. Winning burnout comps takes skill and good car control. Some would say holding both feet down and sitting on the launch controller then taking a foot off the clutch takes no skill whatsoever. Anyone that knows left from right can do that. The skill is in the bits that happen after the launch.

A decent skid does take some proper talent. It's an usual feeling when you want to go one way and the ass end is going another and is all over the show.

After running burnout comps in Levin for a couple of years you really do see some awesome control in some people and a lack of in others. There is also some thought into how to do a burnout too, we often see guys go out and start doing doughnuts and produce nothing...

609whp, 200+kph in mature forestry, on mud. 2300mm track, 4 meter road.... or hooking a dropoff curb with an inside tyre (placing the car within a few inches) on gravel.... events where you aren't "judged" like Ballet or "stars in thier eyes". and accidents hurt.
Two broken ribs, broken ankle, broken thumb, several broken fingers, frost nip (the begining of frost bite. Destroyed nerve endings without the dead flesh), probably shorter through high G impacts... and shit loads of brain damage.

Why are you comparing off road racing to burnouts? Burnouts are a form of entertainment and having some fun/blowing off some steam. Where as racing is well racing, two completly different things in my eyes. Both involve some form off skill at a top level, and im sure there are people in the lower classes of off road racing that probably dont have much skill yet are still having alot of fun, just the same as burnouts.

I cant think of anything more awesome than after watching the truck racing down at Timaru, seeing them do burnouts and drifting them around the track, im sure that would take alot of skill to control those big things
