New RunX Z 2003...what to do now?

Postby AutoGT » Tue Nov 01, 2011 8:44 am

Hey fellas,

so after having the car for almost 6 months, im thinking I want to start pouring some money into it... not that I have heaps of money but I'd like to do some starting mods to it.

What are some recommended changes to the default/stock setup that you think will return some power for money value?

BTW sorry if this is the wrong forum...been out of action from toyspeed for a long time and now getting back into it.

Also the car is a tiptronic so has those gear changers on the steering wheel.

Engine is a 2ZZE-123 or something around that...engine cover says VVTLi so im guessing thats the engine.

Any help/suggestions would be awesomely appreciated.

Cheers,
Auto.

Welcome back :D
Since the exahust on these seems very adequate (read massive 3" collector?) I'd probably start with a decent muffler setup as the stock exhaust setup is as close to straight as you can get!
Then build a big cold air box.

Selling it and buying a fast car to start with.

hmmm I wonder how much I'd get for the car tbh. It's just clocked 104k atm.. >.<

those mods are nice... and seems expensive to do if i had to pay someone else to do it but since that dude did most himself, he spared himself a shit load :)

Leave engine alone, and put $$$ into suspension and brakes (and not lowering with cheap Chinese coil overs).
Put smallest alloy wheels you can fit over brakes with nice semi-slick tyres.

+1.

You'll sink a lot of money into it before it even comes close to the performance or handling of an off the shelf STi, Evo etc.

Boost is your best bet. You'll spend a lot of money chasing small gains if you go down the NA route on a small capacity 4 cylinder engine. Turbo/Supercharging may seem expensive but you'll never get the same gains for the same outlay by staying NA. Gotta pay to play ;)

Yeah NA are so much harder to get decent gains,
Where a Turbo car could cost $100 per extra HP,
an NA car could be $1000 per extra HP.

So the cost of another 20 hp is massive,
