Not quite.... if anything I'm a very conservitive offroad driver. Anything I win is through sheer robotic consistency. Rallying, I'll admit, I don't have a lot of talent. It's been too long since I've been compeditive rallying and the return (with so little power) has been hard.
In all honesty I've never tried a skid in the offroader, and probably never will. 118kph first gear, a very rearward weight bias, and one hell of an expensive transaxle do not a good skid make.
The TVR though... is just flucking irritating. Its bloody hard NOT to make it skid. No weight on the rear, a very cammed engine (requiring RPM or a stall) a triple plate clutch, and P Zero's (the widest set of plastic tyres I've ever used). It takes quite some talent to get it off the line without wheelspin. Wheelspin off a set of traffic lights, is an "I'm a complete tosser" statement. Especially so in a car that already attracts attention.

Why are you comparing off road racing to burnouts? Burnouts are a form of entertainment and having some fun/blowing off some steam. Where as racing is well racing, two completly different things in my eyes. Both involve some form off skill at a top level, and im sure there are people in the lower classes of off road racing that probably dont have much skill yet are still having alot of fun, just the same as burnouts.

I cant think of anything more awesome than after watching the truck racing down at Timaru, seeing them do burnouts and drifting them around the track, I’m sure that would take a lot of skill to control those big things

Truck racing is for people with bigger balls (or less neurons) than I. I feel bad enough with my arse 14 inches from the ground let alone several feet. A COG and a weight bias that is just totally wrong.... and yet... bloody fantastic to watch.
And therein lies the rub. They are racing, they are competing, they aren't being judged on how well they arabesque. The burnout at the end is akin to someone holding their hands up at the end of a boxing match, celebration of the win. I see someone holding their hands up without competing and think.... W.
It's also the very analytical side of me. Racing you constantly strive for perfect geometry, perfect linear power outlay. In Ballet it's all about screwing up the geometry, laying down the power as messily as possible, being judged on look not ultimate speed. You also see talent from Racing shift to Drifting as they are thrown from the back end of the racing grid. However I can’t think of one drifter that has done well in Racing. Ken Block?
Just a personal thing, and I understand others positions. Offroad racing must be one of the worst spectator sports there is.

I've been called worse in enclosed car parks when every clutch release of the 16 point turn requires gobloads of RPM in a car with little exhaust... and I think I deserve it.

pretty sure he started in rallying before anything else, just happens to like doing skids too. like a lot of drifters they started in other motorsports but want something a bit different

apparently this was about burnouts though? not my thing, im hard enough on the car in normal track days

Burnouts are boring, from the point of view that the sensation of speed and vehicle control are what I find interesting about cars in the first place.

Common misconception. Nobody know's what our sport is called... even me. It's supposed to be "Offroad Racing" however buggered if I know what it means. All I know is I go where your standard 4x4 will go at rally speeds (or higher).

I know what offroad racing is, I use to have challenger and still belong to the counties Manukau offroad racing club, just thought the vid combined both burnouts and mud
