I know it may seem like I'm being a pedantic jackass here, but the myriad of names people use for the hub and associated parts has always been a frustration to me.
so FWIW, from the Toyota parts catalogue, MR2 bits:
The part which contains the wheel bearing and attaches to the strut, lower ball joint and steering tie rod is called a steering knuckle on the front:

And they call it a carrier sub assembly on the rear (presumably steering knuckle is inappropriate since it doesn't steer...)
