I haven't driven anything that comes close to what that thing could do on a good twisty bit of road.

I've had 2 gen 1 SW20s, currently one thats really crap and on the worst tires known to man.

Keeping this in mind, I have never driven anything so unpredictably complete sideways oversteery in the wet as a mates RX8.

(Had aftermarket 18" wheels and tires though, so not entirely stock in fairness)

Seemed reasonable on a bash around Scenic drive, but no way it comes near a half decent MR2.

Really? Found mine was awesome, mind, I did have the 6 port Type S, which had sports suspension (different sway bars, spring rates and bigger brakes) and Adrenalin RE101 tires. Maybe that's the difference.

Yeah, type S as well.

You're right, perhaps it was the tires, but I've heard others remark the same about RX8s in the wet.

Come on Warwick, we know EVERYTHING rear wheel drive is just a thinly disguised race car (even Mitsi L300 vans), and EVERYTHING front drive is just a boring shopping basket that no REAL driver would ever own. Or is that just something the flat peak wearers say?

i think what they actually say is 'Kean On Swapz RWD Skiddaz Only No FWD Or Hondaz'

but its not a bad translation :P

Because it's a new car you can spec out to your own likes/dislikes instead of worrying about trying to find a clean MRS that suits your likes?

Also means you've got a warranty... One of the lowest centre of gravity's of a lot of production cars, and perhaps something that look a little less girly (if you're of the opinion that the MR-S looks even a little girly)?

looks alright with a lip kit i reckon....thats where my money would be if i a wanted light weight n/a car.

200HP in a sub 1 ton car is better then 200HP in a car that weighs more then an integra type r

finding an mr-s in good nick wouldnt be too hard. as they are pretty shit std so noone modifies them

Yeah but most people (i.e. 99% of people, who aren't enthusiasts), don't want the hassle of swapping an engine into a car - as easy as it looks to be in an MR-S.

They also want warranties, new tech like built-in GPS, bluetooth etc. without having to have a bunch of extra accessories. And a lot more people are moving to more efficient engines now as well - something that D4-S gives...

Don't forget this thing will have 4 seats, and a decent boot for getting groceries, unlike an MR-S

subaru needs to consider investing in their flat 6 engine more and put it in this....if it makes even half as much power as the porsche flat 6 it would be good lol

Not my cup of tea, the sharp edges on the guards look out of place/wrong.

Top Gear said the same thing when they first drove them. Loved them on the track and in the dry. It rained on the way back from the track and the car was an entirely different beast.

Maybe I didn't drive it hard enough in the wet?

Jalopnik is repeating GT-86 for the name.
I wish they'd kept more of the concept features like the rear light/plint section. The production version looks crap

calling it 86 is going a bit far imo. inspiration is all very well.

budget production cars do tend to look budget. sure there will be plenty of aftermarket stuff for it.

and yay, toyota actually building an interesting car?!
