$75 for one day (early entry) OR $100 on the day

Road and Track is back with all guns loaded this year. We have 8 rounds which includes 3 backtrack autocross rounds and the Ernie's Engineering "Hardy's Heroes" superlap competition.

It's $75 if you register early and $100 on the day. Any road car is eligible - all you need is a helmet, overalls and a fire extinguisher.

I have had a look at all of the forms but I might be blind....

what you need to bring is very simple.

i presume you have a road car. all of this stuff is in schedule A on the MSNZ site and can be found here: http://www.motorsport.org.nz/assets/Mot ... A-2010.pdf

- fire extinguisher with metal mounting strap (mounted using 2xm8 bolts with 60mm^2 washers and nylock nuts)
- 100% cotton overalls - make sure you check the tag
- Helmet that isn't too shitty
- only other thing to make sure is that if your battery is in your boot then it will need to be secured properly using 4xm8 bolts (holding battery down, not the box) and 60x60mm washers + nylock nuts.

you can enter the single sprints without a clubsport license but need one for the multicar sprints.

there is quite a bit of stuff when you get towards being a race car but for a road car scrutineering is just a quick check over the belts, seat mounting (just make sure its secure), fire extinguisher and battery then you are good to go. these road and track days aren't as strict on the scrutineering at other events and the guys at manuwatu car club are very friendly!

That I did. More a question of the extinguisher and any extra bits. I assume a full blown track day is a bit different to an autox at slipway?

The soarer is bone stock.

nah road and track is a clubsport event same as a autocross and pretty much everything follows the same rules in schedule A anyway.

Rounds 5 and 6 are coming up this weekend - both back track autocross rounds.

Entry is $75 before the end of the week (send in your registration and pay online or on the day).

$120 combo deal if you want to do both days and $100 if you bring a new competitor to the series (they only need to do one day).

We're introducing a couple of proper races to the final round of the series (DECEMBER 18th ) to inspire and assist people to take the next step in motorsport.


Email Julian if you've been running in the series and are keen to jump into full noise racing (or if you are already involved). We're looking at two time bracket classes for this (1:23 and faster/1:23 and slower) and it is the easiest way to get onto that next rung of racing.

All drivers will need a National license to join these races (not hard to get) so email Julian on manawatucarclub@xtra.co.nz or talk to your local license examiner to find out how. The normal safety gear is required, roll cage not essential.


Apart from that, it's business as usual with Single and Dual car sprints throughout the day plus a prize giving, bbq and added festivities to celebrate the end of the year. We're running larger groups in the sprints so that no one misses out on track time (you should actually get more runs than usual in theory).

With that group racing, what type of overals and other essential equipment are required? Can you run single layer overals or do they have to be double with gloves and boots as well?

will be the same as a winter series meet. so as long as you have a national motorsport license, overalls (single layer ok but double layer recommended), suitable helmet and the obligatory fire extinguisher you'll be sweet.

how fast will you be going? not sure on the stance that will be taken on fast (sub-1min20's) uncaged cars racing in a group. might pay to give julian a yell on that one.

Yeah, standard single layer overalls and other clubsport safety gear is fine for this level of racing.

You can technically race any car with no roll cage at this level, but we normally draw the line at a certain point. This year's winter series it was 1:32 (bar a couple who made a step up), but this meeting would be a little more relaxed since it's less competitive.
