Rebuilding rear brake calipers

Postby pc » Fri Nov 25, 2011 2:31 pm

I have a leak from around the hand brake lever on my Familia rear brake caliper, so figured i'd just replace the caliper with a Pick a Part one. The intended replacement is also leaking in the same place so a rebuild might be the best option.

I've pulled the spare apart and I have got the piston out, but can't figure out how the hand brake lever is ment to be removed... does the impossible looking circlip at the bottom of the pison bore need to be removed?

I've done some searching on here and on youtube and haven't found any decent rebuild instructions yet, so still don't know how to get the handbrake lever out... anyone here who has done it?

Yes it does need to come out. Getting a pro to do it as they will have the right tools to do it etc. Some shops do exchange calipers.
