A video showing his car in it's current state was shown on 3 News at about 6:20pm. For anyone with Freeview, chuck it on TV3 +1 (channel 8 ) at about 7:20pm and you'll see it. What a sack of crap. No engine or interior, and looks like the government will be doing him a favour by taking it off his hands.

The system definitely needs to be updated so they get their car crushed in the state it gets impounded in. If the offender gets caught in anything else impound on the spot and crushed, indefinite loss of licence and gets to use public transport
It probably and definitely won't fix repeat offenders but something needs to be done to put a stop to it.

Pretty sure there's been a mistake here... there's no way a DX with no motor could break traction

Letting him have his car back so he can take anything worth money and leaving a shell worth 50 bucks, biggest fukn mockery of the system Ive seen for a while

Hope you don't mind, that's gold :D I'm quoting it on facebook hehe

You'd have thought the LTSA would've thought of this little error. What's stopping anyone else buying a car of the same model as the parts he HAD on hs old car, bolt the stuff onto the new one and ""go do skidz again aaauuuuu"". Once the car's impounded that's it, bet it won't take long for eberyone to jump on the band wagon dissig the system and the government will think "oh, i suppose we'd better change the legislation so noone can do that" and take another year or 2 to actually take effect. After more offenders have gone through the system as is.

Best thing would be to impound the car there and then, better even if it's a mates car! Crush it, take their licence from them for 2 years. If they get caught driving or anything within that 2 years it starts again, but 3 years, caught again licence taken from them forever and 3 months jail.

I don't think fines will do anything...

I have to say Im really impressed, or is it proud?, of the overwhelmingly positive attitude that TS'ers seem to have shown towards this issue .

When the thread first popped up I was kind of expecting a bit of hate towards the authorities, but it seems quite clear that this place is full of responsible car entusiasts.

Either that or all the guys who 'do mean skidz au' are keeping their mouths shut to avoid being given shit for said antics?

I think that anyone that even types language like 'do mean skidz au' or doesn't use proper english should be banned from Toyspeed!
