EP71 gearbox same as ee80 and ee90?

Postby Leon » Tue Jan 10, 2012 11:21 am

Picked up a Starlet with potentially busted gearbox

Wondering if the 5sp E motor gearboxes are the same between the Starlet and Corollas

Pretty much, mounting of the passenger side mount differs - starlet is mounted on the front, corolla on the top. Usually the corolla boxes just need the holes drilled and tapped.

well if this one is a busted gearbox rather than just busted clutch, I'll be in the market for a cheap gearbox 8)

Best bet is probably pickapart to be honest, a c150 will do but a starlet c52 is the strongest.

C150 is the cheapest bet then - they are easy to rip down and rebuild if needed

They're the stock box for EP70/71.

Basically you can look at almost any c series box, but just take note of the passenger side engine mount as above. Anybox from behind an e series engine can be made to work.

As an indicator of how the C150's go , that's whats in Jilly's car , seems to be holding up ok

"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.

C150's are fine - just don't do big rpm clutch side steps.
