add a gun range and a place for people to just sit there and rev whatever they have - even if they trailer out a LS1 with no extractors and just hook up a battery and some fuel and play with the throttle body :D

Do you think I could put a submission into the Civil Aviation Authority to have the planes diverted well away from my house?

No I think the issue you need to ask the council to address is the wind changing to that direction

Lol could be like that movie with Billy Connelly and have the churches up about it! It is their "god" that's changing the wind :P

Will add it to the list. ;)

Already on it (a must) is a tunnel section designed in such a way that you get the best sound from the exhaust/s, a drift section of the track, motocross section, maybe a rally section and obviously a skidpad and drag strip. Maybe a really really long straight too if feasable.

Dreams are free, so i do a s***load of dreaming. :D

I may be extremely unpopular BUT why should someone elses hobby impact on the land values of the property owners around them? Realistically if your activity has a widespread impact (motorsport or any other sport) then buy up all the land around you then sell it with conditions on the title specifying it is subject to higher noise levels and then try selling it. Will be worth a $&#$% less.

Yeah, but did the speedway own all the land or did their startup devalue all the land around them?

What other houses were there when it was started? Was that land even zoned residential when the track was built?

Speedway started in 1936 - don't know too many people who could answer that.

Look where it's built too - it's inside a massive park (Western Springs) with steep banked hills around it. There are only a handful of people the noise effects, who live right above the staduim. I've got friends roughly a kay away from the stadium with no complaints.

Maybe these people should look into double glazing, insulating their houses etc. The stadium is older then most of the houses.

Happily, lol

I should probably make clear that I am extracting the urine in case someone takes offence.

In all seriousness though, houses affected by western springs probably are worth less than others, and their rents probably are cheaper, so knowing this people move in and complain when things get noisy. Why not move out and let someone who doesn't mind the motorsport/music enjoy the cheaper rent.

Side note, my old man recalls seeing Led Zep at western springs, how sweet would that have been

As far as I am aware there was very little residential property around the area when the stadium/track was developed.

Considering the length of time the track has been present, it would be very difficult to argue that land values have been de-valued, in fact quite the opposite. By stopping the track from running their land values would increase.

I liken it to buying a house next to the airport for $5, complaining that the planes make too much noise and having them close the airport, then selling the house for $15.

Here you go, quote from the history;

The site where the Western Springs Speedway exists today was originally a polluted waste land contaminated by the council abattoirs at which is now West View Road. Associated industries like tallow works, tanneries, fell-mongeries, used the streams at Motions Creek to carry the waste away. To make matters worse it was the site used as the night soil deposit area.

A substantial amount of the housing along the side of Old Mill Road which neighbours the Speedway and the houses in West View Road, were built by council for abattoir and council workers and abattoir caretakers. ( The properties affected by speedway.) These houses existed prior to the development of Western Springs Speedway.

So building the speedway increased the value of the houses (as I am sure living next to an offal pit would appeal to few)

Find a bunch of Maoris living at Western Springs since before 1936 and then there might be a case for closing speedway down.

This thread doesn't mention anywhere about giving or taking land? It's about people buying a land title next to a long standing & well established race track, and then complaining there's a race track.
