Cool, thanks. Its currently running 8psi without any smoking issues. I imagine running a wta intercooler may raise the boost pressure slightly but what would be a sensible maximum. And if I do up the pressure is there a fuel valve I should adjust.

Sorry if that's a stupid question but I'm so far out of my depth with diesel its not even funny. But I guess there's a first time for everything.

One of the first things you want to do on those is fitting a bigger exhaust, including the down pipe. They are really restrictive and theory is that it builds up heat in the head and causes them to crack.

You'll get:
Quicker spool
Cooler EGT's
Revs more freely
Sounds like a Mack Truck

I fitted a 3" to my 3.4L diesel turbo and it gets better economy and doesn't get choked in higher revs. Intercooler is next :D Then more fuel and boost 8)

So say a 2.5" with a 3" turbo flow muffler should do it?

Yeah 2.5 will do, but definitely replace the down pipe too. The factory on my 3.4L factory turbo was about 1.75" in the worst bit!

Silencer is up to you, but I used one of those 'magnaflow/ultra flow/everyothercopy flow' ones that have chambers inside instead of being packed like normal ones. Sometimes you can get away with no silencer at all on a turbo diesel.

Remember too that relationship between boost pressure, rich/lean and what's dangerous is different between diesel and petrol

very roughly, more fuel = more power on a diesel, and increased EGTs (bad), you wind up the boost to help keep the EGTs lower, and to supply more oxygen so you can burn more fuel, etc etc

So you need to worry about Exhaust Gas Temps rather than running lean, although the result of getting is wrong is similar!

Cool, some very interesting info. Ill definately get onto that exhaust asap. I guess I should look into getting some sort of pyrometer as well.

Presumably the intercooler will assist to lower egt's aswell.

yeah deisels are pretty whack compared to petrols when it comes to rich and lean.

more fuel equals hotter egt
not enough fuel equals not much happens.
you'll probably find you pump can only feed 12-13psi worth of deisel, if that, easiest and cheapest way to fuel above that is with meths & water injection.
