Engine choices

Postby AE86less » Mon Jan 16, 2012 7:05 pm

I'm looking at engine options for my wagon, an SA60G Carina Surf. For those of you who don't know, it is the same car as this minus the base model headlights

Image

I'd like the engine to be period correct if possible, fuel injected, twincam and N/A.

I like:

1GGE - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GP1dLnNfscg&feature=related
18RGEU - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3HMh6z62-c
Beams 3SGE (not period correct, i know).

Would be used for a little bit of towing, but not particularly heavy. Needs to be reasonablish on gas for dailying.

Cross members to bolt all of these engines into my car are available and I already own G and S series to W5* bellhousings.

Opinions, options and reasons please. GO!

I voted Beams 3S. Can't give you any reason why. Probably because it's not either of the other two.

Edit - What they ^ said.

Beams without a doubt. May as well make the effort worth it and have a sweet engine to thrash!

In keeping with the "period correct" theme an 18rgeu would fit the bill, but as you said you want power and reasonable fuel economy. Can't say i was that satisfied with either of those two areas when i owned my old ra63 years ago. So 3sge would be the way

Will a dual vvti beams fit under the hood? You may need to look at the single vvti ones and run it on an angle as per Roman's Carina.

You should do this and we can be beams buddies
