Quick tyre Question

Postby thornz » Thu Jan 26, 2012 1:13 pm

Can I run directional on two front tyres, and assymetrical on the rear tyres, or do they need to be the same all round?

You can do as you suggest, but it has been recommended to me to put the assym's up front and directionals at the back

VIRM says that as long as they are the same type on each axle it will get a WOF.

Sort of on topic but, I had WOF troubles when I had M+S 'mud and snow' tyres on my Landcruiser and it was failed because one didn't have m+s written on it. It was a different brand buy same tread design and exact same size.

Check load ratings on the tyres. I can't recall if it matters on different axles or if all 4 had to match. But I got pulled up on having one tyre with a different load rating last year.

also check your insurance.

My last policy specified that the size of the tyres had to be the same, not their brand/design/shape.

this was after I had been driving round on mismatched tyres (design, not size).

Just something to consider anyway.
