Beaurepaires - the most useless tyre company ever?

Postby thornz » Tue Jan 31, 2012 1:35 pm

Warning: Rant below!

Wow, have honestly just had the worst customer service I have ever recieved in any industry in my 29 years on this planet.

Will copy and paste the customer feedback I have just given them as cant be bothered typing it all out again.

Region: Christchurch
Store: CHRISTCHURCH - Blenheim Road
Your Message (What I liked... ): Ummm, hard to find any positives at all. There was nothing to like at all.

Your Message (What I Didn't like... ): Where to start, first came into the store on Thursday 26th around 10am to order a couple of tyres for my car. Decided on the 3000A and asked them to order them for me, was told they should be in that afternoon, and will be called when they arrive.

No phone call.

Pop back in Friday morning, and told actually they dont have any they can get but offer to get the Eagle F1's in stead, I agree and am assured they will be in this afternoon and will ring me when they arrive.

No phone call.

Pop back in Monday the 31st in the morning and told they forgot to order them but will order them for today and should be in stock around 130pm and will ring me. 2pm rolls by so I make a phone call to ask if they arrived, am told the truck is being unloaded as we speak, and Blair who I had been dealing with will call me back in 5 minutes.

No Phone Call.

Tuesday morning, I finally get a call saying they are there and I can book my car in which I proceed to do (wishing I hadnt now). So I take my car in, ask them to replace the rears and also that I wanted my old tyres back as they are expensive near enough semi slick type tyre, one failed it WOF as it had excess wear on the inside, the other was in top condition with around 5-6mm of tread left on it. I go to pick my car up, and this is where the issues start.

The price I had originally been quoted has inflated, however manage to meet a compromise and am mildy happy but still frustrated. Next I go to my car, and see my old tyres arent there, so go back in and ask to grab them back. Now, only one of these tyres can be found, and lo and behold, has been spiked so it is no longer of any use to anyone, and the other tyre cannot be found anywhere. This is where I really get quite angry, as they were still in excellent condition to put on a car for track days at race circuits, and being semi slick tyres, are highly sort after and still valuable. Yet your tyre experts in all there wisdom have spiked one of them, and the other cant be found.

After hearing this, obviously I am very angry and frustrated by this, and all I am offered is a 'sorry', the technicians should of known better. This honestly has to be some of the worst customer service I have experienced in any supposedly reputable store, how your blenhiem road store is able to keep the name Beurepairs is beyond me, it takes them four days to get two tyres which were in stock in Christchurch, then they cant even follow instruction, or have the courtesy to ring me when they have said they would, and then to top it all off, ruin two perfectly good tyres that would still be worth around $80-100 each is almost laughable, its the kind of horror story you hear about from some dodgy back yard tyre shop, not a reputable name such as Beaurepairs. I should have gone with my gut and decided about using this shop, the lack of any type of professionalism is rediculous, the first day I turned up, there was a worker sitting at the desk with his feet up, and eyes closed. Obviosuly this reflects pretty poorly on Beurepairs as a whole, and I sure as heck will be telling anyone I know to steer clear. In an economy where you need to be looking after customers and trying to get people to spend there incomes with your shop, this is truely dissapointing service to say the least.

Your Message (What I would like... ): Perhaps getting your Blenhiem Rd store to actually listen to customers, and do what has been asked, also a lesson in ordering tyres and actually communicating with customers would also be beneficial. Also, when a customer wants his/her old tyres back, not putting a spike through them rendering them useless could also be great, as it means I now wouldnt be potentially a few hundred dollars out of pocket.
Satisfaction Rating: 1 out of 10
Check this box if you consent to Beaurepaires contacting you to discuss your feedback: Yes

TLDR: Blenhiem Road Beaurepairs is run by muppets who cant order two tyres, and then proceeds to destroy customer property.

You spelt Beaurepaires wrong.
I would have demanded they replace the tyres they damaged/lost, and not left until they had.

Man, that's bullcrap. :x

I sort of had a similar incident with Firestone, although it went for a wee bit longer than it did for you.

They did give me a slight discount on a wheel alignment though (as an apology), and i was already getting the tyres cheaper than any place in town could ever hope to match (mates rates), so i didn't really kick up a stink about it.

But yeah, will be interesting to see what they reply to you.

Work out value of old tyres, give them the bill with the other option being disputes tribunal.

Someone probably kept the other tyre for themselves. I'd be fuming too. I'm sure you could get a 2nd hand price for the tyre you still have, double that to account for the missing tyre and give them that price. If all you got was a "sorry" then you will probably have a fight on your hands so hit em hard asap so it's still fresh etc.

I tend to go with Tonys Tyres, they aren't perfect, but they are much better than that!!!

Im wondering that as well, the one that, to quote them 'not sure where that ones got too,' if one of the monkeys hasnt kept it for himself to flog off.

Will wait to see repsonse from them, then look to go to the disputes tribunal if I'm not satisfied.

Yeah i'd put money on it. Tyres don't just disappear into thin air. I wouldn't have left until I had both back.

I was in a fit of rage by that stage, and just stormed off before I did something I might regret, which is saying alot, as I'm about as relaxed and laid back as they come.

Putting a price on the tyres, whats the normal tread depth on a new tyre, and whats minimum depth at WOF time (2.5mm??)
Is that a fair way do you think of valuing them? If they had 5mm depth left, work out a pro rata of 2.5mm tread life?

1.5mm minimum

Sounds fair to me. Tread depth from new is often posted on manufacturers sites for the tyres. Tends to be 7-8mm.

if they were semis then normal tread depth may not be relevant, if you put up what tyres they were and size etc with approx age someone might be able to price them

...I wouldn't have left without the semi tyre. Reiterate that it's theft, etc.

And with respect to inflating the price of the tyres - you should have told them to take them off and put your old ones back on. That's a clear breach of the law. :P

I found Beaurepaires in Barrys Point Road (Takapuna) excellent right up to my last visit.

They had their 'we'll beat any price gaurantee', so I rocked up, said xyz has this tyre, but $40 cheaper and I want you to match / beat it since I always shop here.
Their new manager said it needs to be a written quote from the store (business card or other), while standing in their unusally empty store.
I said why don't you just call them; I'm here now and I'm not driving to Papakura to get a quote for you to match. To add to that I've bought at least 8 sets of tyres from this store in the past few years so at least tell me what your best price is or try to do something for me.
The new manager wouldn't call or budge from a written quote, wouldn't discount the tyres, so I drove to Papakura, got a new set of tyres put on by a friendly guy with a new business, and haven't been back to Beaurepaires since.

let me guess, the one that "disappeared" was the good tread one?

i cringe every time i have to order a tyre at work through them. hard to deal with and im pretty sure our so called trade price could be beaten by any random idiot off the street
i'm currently trying to sort out a bill for a tyre we bought in november, supply only but they charged for fit, disposal and valve.
after multiple calls to credit the things we didnt get they put us on credit hold because we didnt pay the bill...

These tyres here in 215/45/17, it was there tyre between a full semi slick, and road tyre.

http://www.yokohamatire.com/tires/detai ... neova_ad08

By my calculation they are 7.1mm (or 9/32") depth brand new.
warrant says they had 4.5mm of tread left onn them.

So had 3mm of wear left out of a total possible of 5.5mm (7-1.5), therefore 54% tread depth left. Tyre is currently $300 each
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 060240.htm

So should be around $150. Although as one had failed its WOF due to too much wear on the inside, probably couldnt ask for that much for that one.

Just be aware the stores are getting shafted on price to buy stock, my brother used to manage one and their buy price from Capricorn? (the wholesale division of South Pacific Tyres) was higher than what their competitors were charged AND they had to carry the stock. My brother would do a good price with bugger all margin and then the customer would just go down the road, get a better price as that independant stores buy price was lower and then they would come and pick up the stock from my brother to fit for the customer. Totally stupid setup with your whosaler killing their own retail division.

It's because the independent places parallel import?

If so it begs the question - why don't the chains follow suit and buy direct?

I don't bother with local tyre places anymore. I just get them delivered for next to nothing from Hyper and get my mechanic to fit and balance them.

TI suspect there is an IQ test needed to work in a tyre shop.
If you score 75% of the average or more you fail.

Nah I know some pretty onto it tyre guys, just not in Christchurch.

The problem is today you need people with three ranges of skills. Mechanical, customer service and computer skills. Easy to get one or two of the skills. Hard to get all three. Those blokes usually set up their own shop.

I have met one or two. But in all honesty, the vast majority are people who have failed to make it in any other part of the motor trades.
