my BZR just got louder? Problem found, need suggestions :)

Went down to magoos today and found out what was the problem.

There is a huge split where the pipping connects to the exhaust, what remains there barely holds the exhaust where it is and its really wobbly.

Was given a quote on replacing the pipping from the mid to rear section for around $160. The guy also welded a few points so the whole thing wouldn't come off while driving.

What I had in mind though is, if he can weld a few points back on, couldn't he just weld the whole thing back on?? Or is it actually better to replace the section.

After a 3 month trip im finally back in NZ and driving again.
However I realised that my car sounds a lot louder than 3 months ago!
During the 3 months period a friend of mine was taking care of the car, what could have happened to cause this?? Im not sure whether its the induction noise or is it from the exhaust.
And my friend would have told me if any shit have happened while i was gone.
Oh he didn't go change the muffler or anything like that if you were wondering...

If the rear muffler is a cheapy, the packing may have melted out. Or you're just not used to it anymore.

thats what i first thought. but after a few minutes I am almost 100% sure if does not sound like this before.....it almost sounds like I've got a aftermarket muffler.....which I dont D:

Maybe he told you a watered down version of looking after it?

Check the underside of the exhaust and see that it hasnt taken any big knocks? Your mate might have hit something and not being toooooo familiar with it didnt think anything was wrong? Did your mate notice a change in noise? One day it seemed louder/weird?

haha nah he actually scraped the front guard which he told me about and fixed it as well.

Yea gotta recheck with him to see if it changed over time or overnight.
its not sounding too bad imo, but really not used to this kinda noise level haha.

Should I be worried about anything in this kinda situation?? i mean could a "unidentified loud muffler" be a potential problem at all?

Check to see if your catalytic converter is still there. Maybe your mate hacked it off, fitted a resonator in it's place and sold it to a scrap metal dealer for a profit

bzr is normally fairly loud for factory exhaust just with an air filter alone, probably silent to other road users anyways.

isnt the factory exhaust ID on those BZ-R's like 2.25" anyways ???

It was always that loud - you just haven't heard it in 3 months. I damn near crapped myself when I started my Corolla up after a couple of months getting turbo swapped. Sounded ridiculously loud when in actual fact it was much quieter than when I used it as a daily as it now had a turbo in the path of the (same) exhaust

just googled "CatBack" and "catalytic converter". If my understandings are right, "CatBack" is really just whatever comes after the "catalytic converter", and the "catalytic converter" is the device that reduce harmful emissions?

oh....yea i was wondering if its rusted or not as well. So what you are saying is that section of pipping will most likely need a replacement right?

I didn't think the "flexi" in these was really a problem? It's built into the 2-1 pipe. Right at the flange from the 4-2 (if that makes sense?)

Instead of a conventinal flexi these have a hinged one
