Oxy sensor fault and Airbag self check.

Postby peas » Sat Feb 18, 2012 10:35 am

Hey,

So after fixing the speedo sensor fault with the soldering in the dash I cleared the fault codes. Then I rechecked the check engine light. The 42 speedo fault was gone but the 21 oxy sensor fault was still there even though I had not driven the car since clearing the codes.

The car runs fine and the check engine light doesn't come on while driving. Fault only comes up when I bridge the diagnostic terminals.

Last time an oxy sensor failed on me the car went into a super gutless mode. This time the car runs fine. Any ideas on what might be the problem?

Also my airbag doesn't come on when I turn the ignition on but have checked and the bulb is fine... just doesn't seem to perform a self check. Is this possible that a plug has been dislodged from a module or is the self check integrated into the ECU or something???

TIA

Andy

A buggered oxy sensor won't necessarily throw a CEL. My FXGT had thrown the oxy sensor code for as long as I owned it, the only symptom I noticed was a slight hesitation mid range, no CEL or anything.

Yeah I did wonder why it came up when I checked for codes and not while driving (CEL) A little bit strange as it runs fine... smooth as I can tell. I noticed that the Airbag light did work again... did its check but has since stopped so a dodgy connection somewhere...

SRS lights are a trick on the toyota's.

the self check is performed from off to accessory position on the key,
so if you go from ign back to acc then on again, it will not self check.

Pull the key out and put it back in again.
that give the SRS ECU time to power down ready to do the self check again.

Strike it at work all the time with people failing them for a WOF and sending them to us when it works fine.

Sweet cheers Matt,

It does seem to work intermittently... Will pay more attention to when it works and when it doesn't.

Got a new oxy sensor ordered... only a lazy hundy.
