Hi all

I put my Supra rego on hold around August or September of 2010. I can't remember how long for. Lets say for arguments sake that it has been over a year (worst case scenario) that it hasn't had one.
I haven't done anything about it - and I haven't received any letters saying anything either. To be honest I haven't even thought about it because I haven't touched it in over a year - until the weekend just been :)

What happens in this case if I get the car going and want to get a warrant and rego for it?

Lapsed, needs the full VTNZ expensive re-inspection process sorry.

If you're not sure, feed your number plate into Carjam, that will tell you if you're lapsed or not.

It just says:

5uprah is not reported stolen or wanted otherwise by the New Zealand Police.

But doesn't say any other info....

You need to login and click on basic check,

Yes license expired 10 months ago, so its now lapsed. You also need to back pay this, and will need to go through the VTNZ to re-reg

If you didn't get advised then your address details must be incorrect with NZTA. When you go through the carjam report there will be a section talking about when last licence issued and when it expires.
Have a look at this one for example -
https://www.carjam.co.nz/report/?ref=53A8FAC2
Scroll down to the licence section and it will say if on exemption, below that is registration which will say if it is lapsed or active.

Licence expiry gives you 12 months before the registration is cancelled so rego should still be live, will still have to back pay to put back on exemption. What is plate number? (couldn't see it posted anywhere?)

Gay. I had an inkling in the back of my mind that the 'on hold' rego was due for renewal shortly.
Turns out I only put it on hold for 3 months so it's well over due and they can't put it on hold again until I've paid the $240 outstanding - bugger....

Could be worse, it could have been cancelled which would cost a lot more.

Wonder if there's any sway with them on these matters. The car hasn't been used during this time. Has been locked up in a garage.

Has anyone else had any luck with the LTSA in this regard?

Yeah - the van's one is cancelled I just realised - after paying them $330 a few weeks ago.
Seems so retarded - I paid the years rego that they complained about - then they go and cancel the bloody thing!

No, I had a car crushed that I forgot to dereg, and had to back pay to dereg it. Was only a couple of months though, still a waste of money though.

Oh wait - they came and took your car and crushed it because the rego had lapsed? Surely not!!!!

Two shows. No show and $hit show.

Legislation says it's your problem and exclusively your problem to ensure your road licence is up to date.

Yeah afraid so... it harsh so people take it seriously, unfortunately the stick tends to work better than the carrot.

Hah nah, sorry that was ambiguous,

I had a parts car that I stripped and scrapped, just had it on hold while I was doing so - should have dereged it then and there but forgot, and didn't read a notice saying the exemption was running out, so by the time I remembered it was too late and I had to back pay the two months or so as if it had been on road, despite me saying it had been off road for over a year and had been scrapped, my own fault I knew the rules and blew money as a result

Sometimes handing in the plates gets you out of backpaying, not so good if you want to keep the car though.
