Write off.... Repair / Replace or ? 56k warning large pics

Postby Dopamean » Sat Feb 25, 2012 9:10 pm

On my way back from the tron after staying at my girlfriends I was driving on the Southern / Western motorway. Just before the joining of the motorways after the airport a truck with double trailer decided to change lanes clipping the rear quarter, one moment I was what's this!! as the car started to slide, next second I was spinning down the motorway before slamming into the inside rail and promptly coming to a stop facing the wrong way.

I managed to drive off after the cop's were involved and being grateful I was still alive but now I have to deal with the reality of I need a new car and my freshly rebuilt 4age is likely a gona....

It's very likely going to be a write off and I'll have to decide what to do.

I need some advice, there seems to be very few cars on trademe or from dealerships that look appealing, my budget in reality is 12-15k but I prefer cheaper if possible.

An ideal option at this stage would be an RS200 manual Altezza with less <100,000km very hard to find now.

Realistically what are my options, I only see one car that tickles my fancy on trademe....

What do all the Altezza owners move onto now their cars have high k's?
Should I take the insurance buy back my car and do a donor?

I think it's going to be hard finding a BZ Touring Carib with Tiens springs / GT shocks.. BZR seats and wheel rebuilt 20v immaculate body / interior....

It had more extra's but those can be commonly found.
Yep I really am crying a death for that car....
I've had it for more than half a decade.....

We recently upgraded from the BZT to a Fielder Z Wagon with the 2ZZ and 6 speed.

Would be similar to what you had but better.

We were looking at this one, but being at the wrong end of the country was not practical for us, so be bought basically something exactly the same but local.

Would be well worth a look.

Hehe... as the truck yard supervisor, the highway patrol and the panelbeater all took photos I was kinda over it at that stage but I'll post some up when I fly back home tomorrow.

I'd be keen on the following but I can't seem to find anything...
Runx RS
Altezza manual RS200, just wondering what the upgrade is for this now?
Something high reving with a bit of pickup and non-turbo....

Whats with the lack of good options these days??

Sorry to hear. I take it it's a Carib BZ Touring?

Have you thought of using it as a donor car if everything else is mint on it?

After I sold my BZ-T Corolla I went for a Caldina GTT. Had it for 4.5 years now and I still love it (natural progression if you want another wagon). They're dirt cheap now, but I guess they're getting old.

Not keen on fielders - to me they feel / look like people movers and I hate having to rev the shit out of them to make them move.
Runx's are cool but I wonder if there are better looking hatches out there; they don't look that different to your nana's GL corolla.

I think Altezza's look dated, and if you're going for one I'd seriously look at a GTT as an alternative.

Currently going to buy one with 100,000ks on the clock kyb shocks standard springs 18s & new tyres for 11G.

As for there look, I'm getting a little older so that's the natural progression for me, sticking to NA screaming with dreams of after market throttle bodies, exhaust & extractors with a cold air intake.

I've read, cant recall where some bolt on bits can get 30-40 hp easy making for 180kw'ish easy in NA form.

That will be a bit of a move from the 100atw on the 4age.
Speaking of which if anyone wants to confirm BUYING parts I will look at keeping the car, still drivable 30,000ks after rebuild from bazda's dad.
TIEN suspension & GT gas shocks.
Some BZR gear inside.
New 17" DTM GT 37's with new tyres
Full stereo set with new infinity kappa components.

F**K'n heartbreak story I know but insurance was not bad.....

How much was it insured for? Damage doesnt look that bad, unless there is a tweaked chassis rail

Current valuation was at its insured value $7xxx+
Cost of repears $6xxx+

The dollars they have offered are to the insured value.
I could try my luck and say it was under-insured...
Was a minter but then again I don't feel like driving it anymore, know what I mean...

Yeah I was VERY VERY LUCKY how the crash unfolded.
Could have been a car coming from behind the truck or worse the truck could have continued into me...

Hardcase not one scratch on the mags lol.

How much do they want for it? Surely you could get 1k for the engine, 500 easy for the wheels part out the rest and might come out a bit better off.
