Stainless Prices - good ?

Postby Heylin » Wed Mar 21, 2012 4:54 pm

Im looking at building another custom exhaust for the Legacy and priced up some stainless bits locally, do these seem like good prices ?

304 63.5 X 1.5mm BRITE Tube ( Mirror Polish) - $16.50p/m
304 Short Radius 90* Bends 63.5 X 1.5mm - $21 each
304 63.5 X 1.5mm 90* Bends - $24 each
304 8mm Round Bar - $3.50p/m

Worked out to about $150 for all the bends, straight pipe and rod to make the Y pipe, mid pipe and exhaust hangers.

Havent priced up flanges yet (need 3 of those.)

Seems cheap :)

On the subject of flanges, anyone know where to get stainless steel exhaust flanges ?

Is is ok to weld mild steel flanges to stainless pipe ? not to concerned about looks as it will be under the car, provided its durable.

Mild steel flanges are fine to use, and 1/8th the cost of stainless,

Chase exhaust components do triflanges, a pair with a gasket is usually under $30

Something to consider is using "V" bands instead of flanges ,I used 3 when I re-did my exhaust and it's so much easier to work on. Of course it's on my race car so I probably take it off more than a road car system

"Understeer" is when you hit the fence with the front of the car.
"Oversteer" is when you hit the fence with the rear of the car.
"Horsepower" is how fast you hit the fence.
"Torque" is how far you take the fence with you.
