i guess its pretty basic really, we have to drive past two perfectly good race tracks to get there, so i guess its more a case of why WOULD you go to taupo?

i mean there are obviously a few reasons to make the trip, but that and general laziness / auckland is best probably deals with 95% of possibles :P

Yeah same. Taupo I'm ok with, as long as I can get the time off work.

Although, don't make me play the numbers in Auckland card.

Puke or Hampton for me.

Puke is alot cheaper and doesnt kill road cars as bad as hampton does.

Really? I would've thought Puke was worse as it's a faster track? Less corners though I suppose....

I would have thought the same thing, that Puke' would be harder on the car than HD.

But if its 100% road cars, meaning road tyres and road pads etc, then I guess the multiple hard braking zones, and corners at HD would sort the wheat from the chaff pretty quickly.

Ive always looked at Puke as being more dangerous though due to the lack of run off over the top of the hill etc.

Yea the sweeper at Hampton tensd to lead to oil starvation and engine suicide. More so on higher grip cars though (ie running on semis or better).

Not having driven the track before (have watch a couple of events though) what corner are you referring to please Mark?

Is the oil starvation something thats primarily affecting FWD vehicles on HD?

I know the 2JZ is pretty good when it comes to sump capacity, and design, but I have never looked at hampton downs as having any corners that particularly looked like big end killers.

Perception is clearly only half the story in this instance

From what I've read on the matter - FWD's and 4WD's (Evos are meant to be bad for it) going through the sweeper like Zitchu mentioned

Because of the east/west style of the motors?

That was my initial though, based on nothing other than a gut reaction.

East west or west east motors are always going to suffer on certain corners under certain condition, especially when you throw semis or slicks into the equation.

I have considered getting a baffle with trap doors and windage tray in my engine, but as of yet, I havent noticed any drop in oil pressure while running full slicks on Manfeild or Taupo. I prefer to pre empt problems but dont want to spend money when its not required so I will wait to hear if their are many RWD's suffering oil starvation on HD before considering getting out the clams

Problem is you might not see the drop in oil pressure. Wouldn't take much to starve a bearing....

Any more thoughts on this? Always keen to do some testing.

One of the best ways is to tag along to a "playday" that way all you have to do is turn up and have fun.

Hampton is alot more rougher on cars.

More braking points, more corners.

At puke there is only 1 real hard braking point, the rest you dont need to brake hard for.

All the cars my dad works on - They been braking alot of things since racing at Hampton.
