Postby iamawesome » Sun Apr 15, 2012 2:30 pm

So iv been asking round on eBay for shipping prices for engines and they give me a price but say it doesn't include customs and duty fees, how much extra will that be?

gst 15% on the price of the item PLUS shipping maybe another $50-100 maf plus broker fees?

example I bought a body kit from the us

cost $1400
listed price for customs was $900

shipping quote was $190 for post in the us then $190 to ship to nz

total cost of shipping and taxes came to $680nzd

It is pretty much just GST on top of anything over $400nzd, which includes shipping. If you have a nice seller they will mark the product down in value on the customs sticker.

You should contact someone like Kiwi Shipping in Long Beach, Cali and have your engine sent there. They have a few options on shipping.

Depends how big your item is and if you want to do sea or air shipping.

Have to be a pretty special engine to ship it in. Shipping cost alone on just an engine would be very expensive.

Risk with reducing the invoice price to reduce duty is not being able to claim the full value of your loss when the ship ends up on a reef.

Beware NZ Customs have there own exchange rate its not what is advertised at the banks or on TV either.I got as bit of shock about 5 years ago when I got charged GST and I had calculated it to be this but was told by NZ Customs no our exchnage rate is a little diffferent from the above.
