I'd get an Evo 8 over a 7 if only for the 6 speed gearbox and the nicer bodykit/wing (there are numerous other differences, but these are the ones that did it for me personally).

Having said that, you won't get an 8 in your price range. A good one will be closer to $30k.

why do you have to have new when you already have a daily? with that money id stretch to a supra or an r33 gtr. cant beat the late 90s for sports cars really

$30k's too much. I'd be opting for an M3 if I was looking in that price bracket anyway.

My GTT's late 90's and small stuff is starting to prop up (gaskets, seals, boots etc). I'd rather something new, which looks new, and not worry about it for a couple years.

Plus I attend a lot of work & charity events and it would be nice to show up in something a bit 'flasher'.

Sounds like an Evo 7 is worth taking a closer look at. Didn't realise they were 5 speed but I'm sure I'll cope.


Stagea's are not really something I've ever lusted after. Not keen on the design and didn't think they came in manual.

I should probably mention that my GF will be driving my 'new' car during the week. We'll be selling her '99 familia and my '98 caldina and throwing a bit of cash for something nicer.

Definitely not putting her in a supra or a gtr. A little worried about the attention she's going to be getting in an Evo 7 or 350z as it is (the perils of dating young blondes).

Thanks for the advice. Did the same thing when looking for my GTT - it took six months to find but it was well worth it. Especially considering I've owned it almost 5 years now.

is this a reference on how hard the turbos are to get?

I'm curious why people are extolling the evo over the 350z?

I understand it has more power and 4wd grip, now admittedly I haven't driven either but I would think the 350Z would be the better option as its got to be a nicer drive, more fun when you want it and the 350Z track edition has spectacular brakes so would be pretty awesome for track days.

Its probably my FR bias thats speaking, I have been driving some 4WD turbos (Version 8 and 9 STI, GTB Legacy) lately and they are growing on me, but I still just think the 2 door coupe, design and features of the 350z make it the better pick of the bunch as a true sports car.

Probably doesn't help that I saw a black 370Z track edition yesterday when on the coffee run and got seriously barred up over the size of that braking hardware and the overall staunchness of the car, completely stock.

Before we got the Evo 8 we looked at a huge amount of potential cars in the ~$30k range and the Evo trumped them all in being a perfect all rounder. Everything else was lacking in certain departments. To be fair, we were looking for a daily so not quite the same requirements you have.

I'd probably buy a 350Z, they look like they'd be a lot of fun to fang around tight back roads. Must go test drive one!
Evos are a pretty good all round package though.

VERY VERY hard to find and 1200-1500+gst for a 2nd hand turbo.

Only Fast due to the 6speed box, the gear ratios in them are short compared with other vehicles giving alot better acceleration.

To be honest I completely forgot about the S2000. I hear they're bloody amazing. Not sure a convertable is for me but I might have to take one for a spin just to make sure.

Are Legacy turbo failures a common thing? Such good looking cars though. I do wonder if an Evo, or even a 350z would depreciate a bit better though?

Audi TT.... a bit of a hairdressers car IMO and if I recall, not very quick either?
