So I dropped my keys last night and this morning my alarm want disarm with the only remote I have. The red light still goes on the remote and has had a battery about 3 months ago. (Mongoose Alarm)

WTF do I do?

I could get in pop bonnet pull battery ect then rip out the imobilliser relays. but i would like to keep the alarm intact

Disconnect the battery and back up (if its got one) it'll reset so you can program the new remote

I had a read of your blog and disable auto imobiliser function on our hilux up here to try and talk her through it and while i am heard all the right chirps at the right time the bastard thing still imobilises.

Legend man! Wife is significantly de-stressed now and less like to crush my balls like rotten oranges when she gets home :lol:

Re mongoose... dunno, back 15 years ago they were all the rage. The install job on the ls400 did not produce good results but i think the door sensors are intermittently faulty so it may not be the install job.

What would you recommend? Always keen to hear what the guys in the industry are keen on

Glad to be of service.

I noticed that the drivers door switch was a bit dodgy. Had to open the back door to get the remote to code. The door switches are probably the most unreliable part of Toyota's around that era. Hiace vans are shocking for faulty ones.

Still it's something I always check as an installer and advise people to get fixed.

In regards to which alarms I rate, my preferences are for Autowatch and Cobra. The website has a dedicated review section that explains why.

That's why the page is there, it's a shocking industry to work in and I just don't like seeing people get mislead into paying good money for crap!

We (I speak as part of the NZ vehicle security industry) are making money out of people on the promise of offering a level of protection. With this in mind everyone needs a bloody good shake, and many of us need to take a good look in the mirror to reflect on how honest they are being!

They've been living off their name for a number of years now which is disappointing.
Mongoose must be aware that there are issues with the remote controls as they only offer 6 months warranty on replacements. Everyone gives 12 months!
