Consumer Rights - Dash

Postby Makaveli » Thu May 03, 2012 6:52 pm

Hi,

I have bought a second hand TRD 320km/h Dash for my car from overseas. I wanted to get my odometer reset in the aftermarket dash from 12,000km in the TRD dash to around 169,000km to match my car's actual distance traveled. I have called Company X and asked them how much would it cost, they said around $80 or so. So I have took it to Company X and I have asked them to also check the dash to make sure everything is working as it should before they put it in my car. One or Two days later they said it's ready, so I take my car there to get it put in. They charge me around $310, a bit steep, but I thought maybe they spent a lot of time on it inspecting/calibrating, so I thought that's fine.

Next morning when I start the car the LED in one corner of the dash flickers until it gets warmed up. So I rang Company X and said why did I spend this $310 and you guys didn't check it properly, I have told them if they could fix or swap my normal dash lights in. The guy spoke to his boss and said it's not something caused by our work, so we won't fix it and that I would have to pay another $180 or something to get it looked at again.

Next day or so I get a call from one of the employee's of Company X and he said he can do it at home for a cash job for around $110. So I said let's put take out the LED lights and put my factory dash lights.

Issue 1: After he replaced the lights I would intermittently get my speedo needle sticking when I start the car. After a week or so I took it back to him and he put drilled two holes, one for the speedo and one for the rev counter to put in a manual stopper so it wouldn't stick.

He claims that needles have like liquid or something and that it can leak and cause the "stickyness"

Issue 2: After filling up my car, I pressed to reset the trip meter. After doing this. Now my odometer doesnt work and neither does the trip meter.

Can anyone advise me on what should I do?

I am thinking about taking it to another company to get it looked at.

Your first mistake was paying the extra over your quote. (I assume you asked a quote on checking and installation?
Your 2nd mistake was taking up the offer of the "perk" Wtf dodgy much?

You are screwed, you went private after the initial transaction with X. Even though the guy looking at it works there, if was an out of business transaction so you have zero comeback on that. And now that some one else has screwed with it, X will want no part of it.

Sorry, if you want it sorted, you need to pay someone else to look at it

chappo wouldn't have sold it without saying all the faults so will be the locals at fault. And as said you no longer have any standing ground. Guys pulling the wool over your eyes with the fluid bit, had my needles out and theres no fluid. Use the forums search option and research the hell out of stuff if you want to save money

I have asked around and on this forum someone have recommended to me this company. I don't really care about the price so much, my biggest disappointment is the craftsmanship of the work.

I will try another company. See how they get on.

West Harbor, but work in St Luke's.

PM me your mobile, I will ask the boss tomorrow, but pretty sure Monday will be fine I don't have many jobs on my sheet. It will be next week sometime ok.

I hate how people rip others off and give all mechanics a bad name.

What could cause speedo to stick on zero though? Then if you tap the dash, it would work again.

Having put the manual stoppers (pin) on zero, it fixed it sticking though.

Is it stuck or maybe not getting signal??
Check your fuse box underneath your dash. I've fuse that was broken and the speedometer wouldn't work along with radio and rpm gauge.

Well odometer was working, so signal was coming through. Based on the instrument "experts" advice he reckon its due to the storage of the dash and how they can leak some sort of fluid which could cause the "stickyness".

Now speedo works, but I can hear the odometer trying to turn/clicking noise but its like stuck after having reset the trip meter.

He maybe sexually indecent assaulted it if sticky liquid.

Honestly he full of bee shit. Bring it to me I will tell you if they are rostered or not.

maybe likely the speed sensor on your transmission, which is located on the back side almost directly under the intake. try removing that and checking the teeth on the gear, if they look worn then its probly that, or the sensor is just going out.

How many km is your engine traveled?

It was working fine with my old dash. All this started happening since replacing with TRD Dash. I don't think it's anything to do with speed sensor etc.
