WTBorrow: Possum trap (live catch)

Just seeing it anyone out there has one I can borrow. Will just buy one other wise. Not after one that kills, just catch and release.

Just need to teach the local 'possums' that i'd prefer they shit somewhere else. So will be offering free showers to 'possums' to try and deter such behaviour.

Perhaps ring the SPCA. When I was in there recently they had cat traps you could borrow. I didn't see the guy hand over cash...
Possims are about the same size as cats, and I wound assume the traps are the same.

Yeah the possum traps are the same as cat traps, just bait it with apple and a little bit of cinnamon.

Didn't know that, will do that if no one has one. Not sure they would lend them out to someone that wants to deter cats with a hose though? Just thought there might be a hunter / someone rural that had one lying around.

I don't mean to come across cold hearted but why would not want to kill them?

There are some good traps available that DOC use that are pretty much instant kill ("humane") and from memory you bait them with apples or something so cats dont go for them (there's some feature that means cats dont go for them anyway, I forget what)

Other then scareing the crap outa the cats there isn't too much that you can do with pest cats that isn't lethal. Have you tried barking at them :lol:

If you want to sort cats on your property, Google cat trap. Some guy made a contraption out of stuff everyday items, sensor, hose, camera flash etc.

Lol haven't tried barking...

May have seen what you're talking about. The effort levels required to build that camera / sensor / hose setup is probably 4x the effort I have to work with :lol:

That said.... I guess I only need the sensor / hose / other bits inbetween.

You could go to a garden centre and see if they have any stuff. Garden centres used to sell this powder that cats cant stand, I'm not sure if they still have it but it was really effective when I tried it.

At one of the places I lived the neighbour's cat used to sleep in our carport...on my bonnet. I bought a super fancy car cover....it tore holes in my car cover. One day I found it sleeping in the garden, so I crept up really close with a portable air horn. I have never seen anything move so fast before, I didn't even see which way it went.

It still slept on my bonnet, then carma intervened and it died from (apparently) drinking coolant. Nothing to do with me, but the middle aged trash from next door still egged my car a few nights later :roll:
