Supercheap Axle Stands

Doing some work on my 4wd and I'd like to get it up a bit higher.

Anyone used supercheap axle stands (tomorrow's a Sunday so my options are limited). I was thinking something like this:

I'd probably go for some 6ton stands if you think you'll use them on the 4wd a bit. Smaller ones would probably barely reach the jacking points I have 3 ton and 6 ton, for a 4wd i'd go 6 ton every time.

Max height is higher than the 1500kg threaded rod ones. Either way, measure the jacking point height and compare to all the options. My 6ton stand (powerbuilt) range is 400-600mm.

We have the first set at home at the moment and they seem rather shit. Aren't exactly sturdy and I don't trust em.

Those pin ones look much nicer.

Or buy some brand ones instead of Supercheap ones? They had a recall a while back about safety concerns on their axle stands not standing up to the weights they claimed. Pretty sure it was the same brand, though it was a couple of years ago.

I use those 3 ton styles ones daily at work, though Powerbuilt ones. 4WD stuff usually gets the bigger ones, though I've never used threaded ones on anything before.

Buy some decent ones, saving $50 and then losing your legs doesn't really seems like a fair trade off.

Better yet just go and trademe axle stands. The bigger ones are pushing 600mm height which would be well above what you're going to need, but nice to have the extra reach over the 3T jobs anyway.

I'm not sure the bottom 3 would be any better than supercheap equivalents Just different stickers. The 4T powerbuilt ones are a pretty good deal and would be a good compromise.

I have the single pin silver SCA ones (work fine for cars), some 3T stands like above(also work fine for cars), and some 6T stands too. Don't even know why I got the 6T ones but they are much much more stable than 3T ones. I wouldn't use 3T ones on a 4wd personally. But in saying that, I haven't used stands much since all the shaking

Haha, quite possible. Hard to say without seeing them in person. The last set look a lot like the heavy ones we use, same casting shape on the saddle bit. In saying that, could just be copies of decent ones. They look to be made in the states at least.

In either case, I wouldn't be buying some that seem cheap and nasty or anything from Supercheap like that.

Those ratchet ones look better than the box sextion screw type

What sort of 4wd is it?


I have a set of 12t ratchet stamds, and a really old pair of pin type,
Both have there uses

I've used the ratchet ones many many times - used 2 to hold my supra off the ground easy.

Thanks for the replies. Had a look at supercheap and I wasn't really all that happy with how they looked. For starters most of the demo units weren't perpendicular to the ground.

Thought I'd hold off for a week and get it right. Repco has the 4 tonne powerbuilt stands for $65 and they look a lot better. I just need to check there is enough height.

It's for a '93 Terrano; it's fairly high (I can crawl under it no problem).

Check Sulco/ the toolshed - they have axle stands that are both Ratchet and pin, and they look pretty good.

They are unfortunately chinese, like all the others, but made by the same outfit that make the Torin ones.



I know Sulco have a relatively bad rap (their prices are not that great either), but I have yet to ask what the Toolshed wanted for these...
