4AGE with Oil Squiters & Wiseco Pistons - Do They Clear?

I'm hoping someone on here has had this specific experience before and can help me out. I'm currently putting together a new motor for my race car with a smallport block and Wiseco high comp pistons. The block has been bored and decked for the new pistons and I am about ready to assemble the motor.

However, last night I had a horrible thought about the oil squirters possibly getting in the way of the skirt of the pistons near the bottom of the stroke. The motor has been dummy assembled but without the oil squirters unfortunately. I dropped a piston down one of the bores with a squirter bolted up and my measurements suggest that the piston may indeed contact the oil squirter. My measuring tools left a little to be desired so I cannot be sure though.

I thought of measuring the distance from the bottom of the skirt to the gudgeon pin on a standard piston to compare but I don't have any with me at the moment. I'm really hoping to avoid another dummy assemble if I can help it.

Has anyone come across this issue before? Is there anyone running Wiseco pistons with oil squirters without notching them to clear?

Any insight would be much appreciated.

I take it they arent a short skirt type of piston?

No they aren't unfortunately. They have a fairly standard skirt design. It may be smaller than an OEM piston but I don't have one to compare against at the moment.

We've blanked the oil squirters in both my engines we built, the first one had wiseco pistons, the second had TRD pistons.

That's pretty interesting. Why did you blank off the squirters? I have never seen any negative comments about them.

If they dont clear use a die grinder :).

You would only need to take the smallest cut.

My engine builder, in his words, to stop oil spraying up there, and eliminating any chance of air going up there, and putting excess oil up around the crank shaft.

from what i've heard most forged pistons aren't designed to take that oil anyway so there isnt much point
my race SR engine had them removed because they hit the piston and the engine builder said it wouldnt be a problem

smallport pistons have a small cutout to clear the oil squirters. the distance from where the squirter strikes the skirt in this cutout to the centre of the gudgeon pin is approx 18mm.

Thanks for the replies. I'm going to install a rod and piston tonight and see what sort of clearances I have with the squirters.

I'm happy to clearance the skirts with the die grinder if need be. It's just a pain in the ass as I'll have to go and visit the balancers to get them weight matched again.

On a turbo engine the oil squirters help cool the pistons.

Alot of motorsport guys drill holes in the main caps so it sprays oil up under the piston.
