If a car is damaged badly, the joke is to say with a with of body filler and a polish it will come up like new. When really... it's just beyond repair. It's sort of an extreme situation. If the car was fixable, then it wouldn't be a joke I guess. But since it's well and truely stuffed, "i'm sure a quick polish and she will be mint again" fits well.
Mint, by the way (I saw you ask the other day but forgot to answer) means great, top notch, awesome. It's just slang to say something is of high standard or just great in general. Australians say "sick" to mean the same thing. "did you see that car? It was sick!!" Not meaning unwell, but in fact hot.
Sweet as is a popular one in NZ. Which basically means, No problem. "can I borrow your Astin Martin? Yeah sweet as"
