^ What cams is it running? The stock Euro R cams are a very very good profile to begin with, and the aftermarket stuff is usually a pretty pointless exercise on an otherwise stock motor.

Mine had a straight through (super loud...) exhaust, Hytec replica headers, Skunk2 intake manifold and 70mm throttle, coil air intake, Hondata and a few other minor bits and spat out just shy of 160wkw. Great fun car, way more precise feeling than the stodgy GT-T's too. Doesn't feel like it's going to blow away in a shower of pieces like most other 'performance' Honda's either.

Has a set of Skunk2 cams and cam gears, were done by the previous owner, seem to work very well.

I Think you will find the euro r will be faster and handle very good, not as such in the wet.a 4wd will alway be better there. I have heard the h22a in the euro r tend to wear piston rings out quicker than most cars. Tho I've seen, not heard, a few caldinas break con rods. The caldinas I've been in have been disappointingly slow. Tho would make a good car if you want space! Idk what one I'd buy

CL1 boot is crazy large. Have fit car seat plus tricycle plus pram previously with sub box in there.

Have previously owned a gt-t, currently own richie^s old CL1.

The Honda certainly seems more planted and aggressive than the wagon was, and the interior is really a different class. The factory recaros and touches of faux carbon make it a very comfortable space.

Unfortunately though considering the overall size of the car, it feels a little cramped inside, athough we are a family of 4 so your mileage may vary.

Disclaimer, mine is not your average cl1, although I have driven some factory ones as well and my comments stay the same.

Hmm.....seems like both cars have their pros and cons...

Id expect the gtt to be faster tho.

Hows the reliability of their engines? Coz with my budget im likely to be getting one with slightly higher mileage.

Honda engines, don't really give issues. GT-T engines... crack manifolds.
Drive both, they're very very different cars. The GT-Ts honestly don't feel that quick (depending what you're coming from of course). The Hondas are a bit of fun, but again this is what you're used to and what you prefer.

Both are reasonably reliable. Make sure the cambelts have been done in either case.

GTT's dont crack manifolds, they warp them.

Easilly sorted with an extra lug & bolt (if it hasn't been done already). Otherwise get the facelift version with the factory 8-studded manifold. Even if it leaks it's not a biggie - the car will warm, the manifold expands and the leak will close. I left mine for two years before fixing and had no issues.

As with any car just look for one that's relatively stock to purchase and you should be right. There are a lot of guys on this forum that have done high kays with GTT's without any problems so you shouldn't have to worry about reliability.

GTT's don't feel quick but they are; comparable with most STi's, new Legacy's, Legnum VR-4's etc. Although a hell of a lot quicker then an Accord.

Comes down to whether you want a wagon or a sedan, and what you prefer the look of.

I wouldn't be so sure about how much quicker a GTT is. There's only about 40hp between the two and the Caldina is heavier/has twice the wheels to put the power to. 0-60 times between the two cars are almost exactly the same. The Caldina being turbocharged can get much quicker without much effort but I assure you, in stock form - there's not much in it. Boost makes cars "feel" faster than they actually are.

Around a set of corners the Euro-R feels and is much better. Underneath the comfort stuff, it's still a Type-R at heart and it shows when you drive it in anger.

If you're after a car for putting things in then get the Caldina. Euro-R has a big boot but no rear folding seats. I never found myself needing them when I had my Euro-R but it was always in the back of my mind that if I ever did need them, I'd be shit outta luck. The Evo doesn't have any either so maybe it's not as big a problem as I think it is.

I strongly suggest driving both before making your decision.

Oh and 3SGTE's aren't known for their reliability. This comes from owning/working on a vast number. ST215's suffer from detonation in stock form due to a combination of compression ratio and the stock tune.

Thanks for all the replies guys, gives me a lot to think about.

In my condition, im more likely to gt a stockish car and keep it that way. So assuming all mods are out of the question, would you guys change ur recommendations?

Thanks!

I think people that own either one of these cars are always going to be biest to what they own. I've been in a few of both, had friends that have had each, the accord is noticeably quicker.

Caldina is very boat-like on standard springs. If you're considering one, factor in some Tiens at $400 or so for the set. Still rides very nicely (more comfy than our corolla on TRDs), but the floatiness is reduced by 80-90%.

hey guys,

do any one of you know how good are the suspensions of these two cars? In terms of how long they live i mean.

Coz when I got my BZR the parts that gave me the most problems are the rear suspensions....surprisingly not the SSs.

I've seen quite a few CL1s or GTTs with a replaced engine/gear box that has done low/moderate Ks but a body that's done more than 220Ks. Should I be concerned with this at all?

thanks!

Replacing suspension components is just part of owning a car. Each car will be different as to what needs replacing due to treatment it's had. I wouldn't be too concerned as to which is better, just make allowances to replace the parts.

That said more than just suspension parts start to need replacing with high mileage. If a car hasn't been looked after, then you could be up for a lot in servicing on a higher mileage car.

My best mate AJX had a GTT caldina manual for about 4 years.

He brought it with 110kms and drove it to 145kms.

All he did was a set of tein springs which made it handle ALOT nicer.

The car was GREAT. was easily as fast as many turbo wrx's and not far off evo/sti in a straight line. Got OK fuel econ around town and very good econ on the open road.

Was a wicked car.

Super comfy, fast, reliable and just generally nice.

I owned a triptronic gtt, awesome car for space wise as mentioned tho I found the manual gtt's to be a lot more quicker. Don't know if it was just my gtt but was quite sluggish in auto form.
Had my engine replaced to but thats because it had been in a head on crash and after repairing it on the drive home from the panelbeater it had no oil pressure as the oil pump was damaged in the crash and i ended up killing the engine since no warning light came on either :(

Overall I'd still go with a manual gtt over the Euro R but thats because i don't like honda's in any form, no reason, just a personal preference.
