AE86 new windscreen, where to buy?

Postby Di » Thu Jun 07, 2012 9:40 pm

Has spoken to Mark, not available from Toyota anymore. :?

Got quoted $380 at Smith&Smith and that's include fitting.

Who else to go to for just the screen itself and maybe a better price?

Cheers

To be honest, that is probably a pretty reasonable price.

http://www.autoglas-stieger.co.nz/cms/ do a pretty good range of glass, and usually a bit cheaper than Smith and Smith.

Be aware that the quality of glass from a lot of cheaper suppliers often isn't what you'd call perfect. Quite a few replacement have that circus mirror kind of effect going on when you look through certain patches.

$380 is a good price for glass! You'd probably pay $50-100 to have someone install a screen anyway/
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

Came cross this when searching on the net

http://www.banpei.net/category/ae86-trivia

a windshield replacement has been found for the AE86!

the Daewoo/Chevrolet Nexia windshield is a 99% fit and the only thing you need to adjust to make it fit is put a little bit more glue on the topcenter (where the rear view mirror is mounted) to make it fit properly.

AE86 windshield replacement: Daewoo Nexia
The added benefit of this windshield is that you will have a shaded band on top of the windshield as well! So start hoarding those second generation Nexias!

lol too bad Nexia is not available in NZ i think

$380 is not a bad price at all! Im pretty sure on my old AE101 GTZ it was $400 odd (not that i paid attention as it was my "free" one on my insurance policy)

Give Daniel at Sharpes Auto Glass a call. Usually the best deal.

Yea, 2 type windscreens: tempered and laminated, also 2 type scuttle panels: one smaller, one bigger.

All you can get is the laminated glass these days and I have both type scuttle panels so I'm all good. cheers

It was at Sharps autoglass. In petone. They may not have an ae86 glass, maybe they have that Daewoo one. But I thought $280 was a bargain.

Make sure you have window cover on your daily insured car, and find a good "small" glazier that will charge your insurance and supply one to suit your project 8)

Yea I've heard of the trick but doesn't work for me as the one I'm restoring has been in storage for the past 10 years it's abit fishy if I claim for a new windscreen right after insure it now lol.

I think he was meaning you claim for your daily, the glazier gets paid but instead puts a new screen in your project. Great plan unless you get caught and can never get insurance again.
