Do you know for a fact they did that on those tyres? Or are you basing that on their milk products?

If fact, what sources?

i call bullshit to that sorry sir :)
when the goodyear factory first started in china i agree with you 110 % , the first batches were crap and we sent quite a few back , now goodyear usa owns nearly all of it now so they have actually sent a few of their own guys to inspect quality control and also manage asia pacific , and they are now working in the factory with them to make sure of quality - fact 8)

Well, for some reason after about 50% of wear the compound turned noticeably harder. Didn't had this problem with German made tires.
I would still avoid Chinese made tires.

Can't say much about the new Goodyears but the old GSD3 F-1s are exceedingly good in the wet as I've done a 1.24 round Manfield in the rain in them and cleaned alot of AWD's up doing it mind you this is about 5 years ago now.

I run a 285 tyre on the back made in the U.S and 255 tyre on the front made in Germany and I have to say after 5 + years of use and 30+ kms with a splattering of track-days on them also I gotta say they are the best tyre I have used on my Supra bar non I'm hoping for the same when I eventually wear these bad boyz out and go to the directional Goodyears.

If you are wanting a nice wet tyre I'd suggest you try out the nitto invo..

We recently did a testing day at hampton downs in the wet, and they were hands down the best wet tyres that ive ever driven on!

Do they have them in a 17' tyre with 285,275 and 255 widths 40 profile and how competitive ais there pricing.

I got my 285/40/17 Goodyears brand new and they were $320 per tyre and the 255s were $240 per tyre.

Hows everyone going with their Eagle F1 D5? I'm looking into getting a pair for the front of my Legacy and was wondering what sort of mileage everyone is getting out of them?

Goodyears GSD3 F-1s I got the German made 255s on the front and US made 285s on the back for me these tyres are just brilliant in the wet have done multiple track days dual car sprints intermarque type deals and found there wet weather performance to be exceptional found I could nie on use full throttle coming ouit of corners in the wet which gave me alot of confidence knowing they'd hold on like that.

The only thing i really had to do when in the wet that I found helped me out was run the tyre pressures up 3-4 psi front and back and they worked a treat.

had a pair of chinese gsd3's on back of my aristo few years back, 265/something/18, the delaminated at speed after a couple of weeks driving. got replaced with german ones, several years later, still going fine. also had a couple of different location ones on our previa and lucida vans, on mk4 16*8's, with 225/50/16's. the german ones were a massive step above, the us ones weren't bad, but the chinese just had no grip, even spun them with our diesel lucida...

i had chinese gsd3's on the celica , now running re001's ..

The gsd3's were shocking , bad grip in the wet , squirmy in the dry . they wore out in next to nothing as well ..

I HAD gsd2's on my aussie gt4 before that - german ones , phenominal tyres compared to the " update " chinese items ..

I currently love the re001's , which are about 1/4 life now id guess. much quieter , grippier and stabler than the gsd3's .. id be curious also to hear more what the d5's are like now ..

Dragging an old post back up!

UPDATE
I've just clocked over 60,000km on my Goodyear Eagle F1 Directional (replaced the GS D3)
195/50/15 tyres!!!!
Can't believe it - great grip and good tyre life
I do a lot of hard cornering and braking so I'm not kind to my tyres!
Factors
- I've got maybe 1 degree negative camber on front and rear suspension
- I've rotated the tyres a couple of times to even out the wear
The worst tyre still has maybe 2 1/2 mm tread, best about 3 1/2mm tread
But it's time for a new set of tyres - will probably go for the same tyres again.
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

My F1 D5's are awesome tyres and I'm stoked with the tyre life too and the price at $180 each for 215/45/17. Will end up buying more of them this summer when the current ones are due for replacement.

That ^^ amount of life out of a set of tyres is making me extremely jealous that I dont run a square setup on mine, and as such, I dont have the option of rotating them all to get the most amount of life out of them.

60,000km??? I cant even get 40k out of my rocks on the camry wagon lol

What sort of time frame was the 60,000km over? That would take me ~12-15 years in current daily. Lots of open road mileage? That would help greatly compared to town round and round driving.

About 3 1/2 years - just under 20,000km per year
A resonable amount is open road
However maybe half of the open road is twisty rough surface and intersections (i.e. stop, turn, go)
My previous tyres were Bridgestone Adrenalins and I got 53,000 km before I replaced them with about 2 1/2 - 3mm tread left on them. 80% of that driving was urban.
NOTE
I run zero toe in (personal preference)
More than factory negative camber from and rear (but not too much) about 1 degree
Also keep the tyre pressures up around 36psi cold (no idea how many kpa this is in new money!)

I know that modern rubber compounds are almost magic with the new compositions.
Better dry and wet grip with good tyre life
