Which generation 3sge is this from the photo? It is all in Japanese and hard to read.

I am thinking sell the Alfa and the BMW and buy a ae101 sedan. Problem is who would buy a alfa wagon and a 2002?

And why I not know about this before I bought BZ-R. If i knew this i would buy sedan.

Looks like Gen3 3SGE, 180HP.

If you are converting a corolla to 3SGE this is the engine to get:

gen3 beams 3sge out of st20/related - angled mounting position E-W
or
altezza beams - upright mounting position N-S

which would be better or worse? Cost is around the same I think?

I am looking into cost. Maybe get a group together and offer this service. I have a near full workshop at home and I guess if cost are lower could be done.

Yep - gen3 3SGE
There is a factory SE101 corolla that I have seen.
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

The most cost effective setup is out of the Caldina, greytop engine.

They are all auto, but paired up to a factory torsen ST202 gearbox is the best option... Again those boxes are cheap to get compared to other options.

However most engines for sale, for some reason are always missing the airflow meter and airbox. Presumably to sell to some other person who bought an engine from a wrecker that was missing an airflow meter and airbox.

Altezza motor is completely out of the question, it's a nightmare even into an front engined RWD setup and costs thousands to get working.

Compared to the FWD engines which are rather conventional in terms of wiring etc.

Converting AE101 to a 3S family motor....

My best guess...
Find manual diesel corolla (C family diesel engine/gearbox/driveshafts similar to S engine/gearbox) - grab crossmember, gearbox mounts, driveshafts, gearbox (maybe, as diesel ratios are crap).
Grab a celica gearbox (S5x I think) for better ratios (note - LSD celica gearbox won't work with driveshafts)
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. yet to be confirmed but I think N/A Sw20 manual driveshafts will work (at least in an 80 series

Red or grey top beams are the go as roman said. S54-06D is the factory torsen lsd box.

Supposedly a dual vvti beams head can work in place of a red/greytop beams head, and you can muck around with a mounting for the cam side engine mount - I never really looked to hard - just went to redtop beams.

I'm guessing, Roman, that MAf only matters for factory computer

As mentioned in other thread I should get cracking on mine

Edit, oh and from the looks of things, E series engine cambelt side mounts are in the right spot, and the 80 series corolla crossmember (north south only) can mount the gbox. The 'three piece' subframe of later revision corolla might be slightly different.

Xssspeed. Maybe we should make a workshop and sell parts and offer complete turn key package. I am interested in a small home based business and I have a near complete workshop in my garage. Are you interest?

I need to get mine going first.

Unfortunately my she'll be right attitude is based on measurements, not real fitment yet

Not to put a damper on things, but I don't see a big potential market for such things as turn key packages. Just do fab work or whatever for everything and you could have a business.

Get cracking indeed xsspeed 8)

We did this (Gen 3 into EE100 3 door hatch). Relatively easy but not entirely straight forward.
Can't imagine that enough people would want one as a road car to set up a specialised shop .

Just on Roman V comments above, there is nothing hard about the altezza wiring with a factory computer, and even easier if using the factory gauge cluster.. Problem would be turning it on its side

True, but there are complications with stuff like returnless fuel line, fly by wire etc that arent an issue with the FWD engine.
I couldnt honestly suggest to anyone that it's a good idea to put one in a FWD car by comparison.

In my opinion a beams motor swap is only worthwhile in two scenarios:

1. Where you can buy a whole setup with wiring, airbox, AFM etc and get it working AS IS for reasonably cheap.
(And be comfortable with the near non existant ability to wring more power out of it if you get bored)

2. Where you've got a lot of $$$ to throw at aftermarket computer, cams, compression, etc etc... At massive cost, still not particularly cost effective compared to other engine swaps if viewed objectively.

A lot of people who've started beams swaps have wanted something simple, because they see a motor on TM for $1000... Have then fallen in the middle ground where you end up with something that's not much better than a factory engine/ECU combo, for exponentially higher cost.

hah, I just read his project the other day, will chat but its an ee100, so crossmember is a bit different to ee80.

edit, yeah he's pretty much done as I have described, initially a e series engine.

Roman: Yeah sorry I know about all the other issues, and wouldn't recommend an altezza engine in a fwd situation either.

There is a lot of mis information around about how hard the wiring is, my comment was just saying its actually no harder than any another 3sge wiring, fly by wire throttle is just 2 extra plugs.
