Bastardised igntion systems

Postby Dell'Orto » Wed Jun 13, 2012 11:20 pm

So in my Corolla, I have an interesting hotch potch of ignition system, running a 5K electronic dizzy, with a Ford ignition module and coil. I think these are from XF era fowlcoons etc. Coil looks similar to this one

I want to replace the coil with a nicer looking Bosch HEC715 that I have here, purely because it looks nicer and will be easier to make the wiring look tidier with. Comparing resistance between coils though, the Bosch one is something like 7.5kohm, and the Ford one is 12.5kohm - will this cook something?
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

If the secondary coil resistance (which is measured in kOhms) is lower, it suggests that the primary (measured in Ohms) will be lower in similar ratio. Lower primary means more current through the igniter.

Well, I measured it myself so I may have $&#$% something up  One probe on the outlet of the coil, and one on the positive in of the coil - would that be secondary?

Try and measure the primary resistance, between negative and positive terminals on the coil.
You have measured the secondary (actually I think secondary+primary), but that already gives you a picture.
