Shit bro that's a big call, K series will run with only one cam.![]()
Callum
So will an rb20e
fwiw I reckon a jzz30 has the potential to be much better looking than an r33, if you are going down the bodykit route.

That'd be kinda cool to be fair, though dubious about the 10K business
Double that $10k and you're probably a lot closer by the time you've got it tuned, certed and road legal.
one of my good mates has been through 21 RBs (over about 5-6 years)of various varieties in his 32 drift car including 1 26 and 2 26/30s before he threw it an and put a LS1 in it.
and after seeing numerous RBs $$% out at drift south rounds over the years im more than happy to stick by my claim they arent reliable.

What exactly happened to them? I've seen several RB drift setups last for months/years, a couple of them were over 400hp, this includes 25/30s with standard n/a bottom ends. After even half a dozen, you'd be asking yourself what you were doing wrong, surely?
Not picking holes in your claim btw, just genuinely wanting to know.

Don't know how many more you'll find under $10k and yes it has four doors but is still described as a coupe http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-ca ... 661495.htm
Failing that what about a 300ZX? ignoring how much of a pain they are to work on they are seriously fast and handle well

I had a bit of a think about the cars I have driven, what they'd have cost and what was fun/rewarding in the sense that it sounds like appeals to Loonie and I have to say that one of the most hilarious things I've ever thrashed, especially price to buy/build is considered - was a mates S13 which he initially bought with an auto CA18DE, got it for cheap as chips.
He did an RB20DET conversion on it with some random Nissan manual gearbox, got a GTSLink ECU, front mount, exhast, and did some fabrication to adapt a Mitsi TD05 turbo to fit the stock manifold and Mitsi VR4 injectors and fuel pump. One of the quickest/most fun cars that might fit into that price range that I've ever driven.

Thanks for all the discussion and suggestions guys, certainly some unique ideas being bandied about.
I'd give my testicle for an FD with an LS1/3 in it, but at this point I'm not after another major project, I would prefer to stay with factory engine, not adverse to a manual conversion if needed, aiming to add swaybars, coilovers, wheels, bodykit and decent seats.
MX5 is definitely out, I'm too ancient with aching bones to get in and out of one of those regularly (my ex had one, awesome fun car, but so low to the ground).
I do somewhat like the R33, but for appearance (I'm a riceboy at heart) I prefer the JZZ30 so long as it has vertex kit and correct wheels. S14 is in the same camp as the R33, nice, can see the benefits, but just doesn't get me barred up.
If I could find myself in a tidy SZ-R for 10k or under I would probably be more than happy (despite the lack of power), however I'm still curious as to how much difference there would be in track ability compared to a JZZ30 as they have the same suspension components/hubs, just the Supra has a more square wheelbase and less weight, but less power.
Oh the challenges

So you would end up with something almost like this

When looking at RX8s, at least look at real RX8s, not autos or 4 port.
I sold my 6 port 6 speed manual for $13500 a while ago, that drove like a dream.

Everything.
Lots of run bearings, lots of Detonation causing cracked pistons, Heaps of cracked heads, the 26 hiffed a rod on the dyno, the first 26/30 dropped valves and $$% pistons, cost $1500 just for the exhaust valves to be reapired, cant remember what the "reapired 26/30 was cant have been that majo as was fixed and sold.
to be fair up untill the 26 from memory they were all 20s, was even 20deTT for a while there
