Postby dnalunchie » Wed Jun 27, 2012 1:29 pm

Hey guys my swift is well and truly dieing (maybe)

I am looking at 2 cars to replace it

A 1987 swift gti with 200kms on the clock

a 1988 civic si with 200kms on the clock

both manual

I just need it to last the next 6-12 months before I start my new post university job.

which one do you recken I should go by assuming they have both been maintained and serviced correctly

spending

2,000 MAX

Yeah if anyone has any other ideas around dunedin southland or oamaru/timaru

Must be RELIABLE and manual.

Good on gas.

Any suggestions?

Is the Swift that dead or Laas won't fix it for you?

Why not get a car that you haven't owned before. You have already owned a Civic and 2 Swifts.

Its the headgasket but laas has a ful time job so I cant really expect him to get involved too much. I think I will just sell it and cut my losses.

How much are you possibly paying for either of these? Perhaps we can suggest something better within the price range?

try something like a 96 pulsar hatch. Thats my daily at the moment. Brought it for $1500 with 132km on the clock. Stock standard of course and was in good condition.

Cant say ive owned something more reliable to date! And amazing on gas as well. If you can find one, in my experience to date id be looking at something like that.

later model cars around for sub $2k easily

not that we have much trouble with those older swifts at work, pretty similar to your old one really just newer

I REALLY like that, like really really but apart from the better performance it doesnt offer me anything over and above the 91swift I linked and could be twice the price..... hmmm I wonder what he would take for it.

Would go for the Swift. We recently sold our run-about Swift for $700.00.

It was a 1991 NZ new 1000cc model, had done around 214,000k's and we had owned it since around 100,00 k's.

Only had to pay for wofs and general servicing.

The k's may sound suspect on the one your looking at, but from personal experience the Swifts speedo only went up to 99,999 and would then re set to zero.
