Thats great news. It would have been a crying shame to not have a round in NZ, whether at HD or Puke.

A win for the 09'ers

I'm glad there's going to be a NZ round.

But I don't understand why the govt is forking out $2 million to upgrade Puke, when it could have given the same amount to HD, which would be a better use of money, given that its a newer, and in my opinion, a better track for racing.

I thought the only hold up for HD was the pits needing finished, and if that can't be done for $2 million, then there's something wrong.

Or was it more a case of NZ Motorsport internal politics again?

I thought the problem with HD was the track didn't met requirements like circuit size, possibly some safety related stuff like runoff areas and the holy grail...grandstand capacity (ie more seats=more tickets = more $$$$ for promoter)
Reality: A nasty hallucination that is caused by excess blood in the alcohol stream.

HD has issues with resource consent and signage,
and so it not suitable for V8SC standards.

And they are both things that cannot just be fixed with lots of money.

Oh, and Murf will be lucky if he has a drive in a V8SC next year,
let alone a chance at a race win.

Not sure about the signage issue, but the resource consent is a red hearing, and can be fixed with money.

All it requires is NZTA removing their objection to HD, or HD paying for an upgraded off and on ramp from SH1.

My understanding was that NZTA were worried about traffic issue with a major event on a strategic state highway.
Basically they want SH1 to flow as smoothly as possible, without them having to spend money to do it. ie typical NZ govt thinking.
I mean really what's one weekend out of the year where people have to drive a little slower for part of their trip? If that standard was applied to all of NZ, then all our RUC's etc would go up hugely, to cope with holiday traffic etc.

When it comes to resource consents nothing is ever as easy as it should be,
you wouldn't want to bet the event that even if the work was done
that the consent would be granted before next years race.

Yeah HD is complicated due to lots of politics....
And it's further from Auckland, which is the only place the V8s want to race.

Where else could it possibly go? HD can't, taupo can't, ruapuna can't. Others far to small areas

i dont know the in and outs at all, but seeing as Hampton Downs is all but a brand new circuit and Taupo has just had a massive renovation, surely some heads need to roll if they aren't up to the required standards for such an event.
