Corolla Runx, Z vs S

Postby 20v_rollaboy » Thu Jul 05, 2012 10:29 pm

Ive been looking at a few Corolla Runx's recently and was wondering what differences there were between the Z and S models.

2001 Z and a 2006 S. Both are 1800cc and both are tiptronic.

Thanks :)

Been covered before
S is the 1ZZ-FE engine with VVT-i, same as the NZ-New Corolla of the same year
It'll go all day long, and shouldn't cause you any headaches, but it won't set you on fire in the power department
The Z however, runs the hi-po 2ZZ-GE engine, with VVTL-i, and above 6200rpm goes onto a high cam and buggers off into the distance

Both are good on gas (I've had an S, got a Z now), getting 550 out of 40-42L, mine are manuals though.

People say the Z is a bit of a bugger for a daily compared to the S, but I prefer it, much sharper throttle response and the 6-speed helps too
2006 Fielder S, CVT, and immaculate.....

Sorry if its been covered, did a search and found lots of info but nothing I was looking for.

Would love a manual but hard to come by. Sounds like the Z is the option I'm looking for.

This one!

http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-ca ... 567007.htm

Only one I've ever seen with a sunroof!
AND a strut brace too.....

I got mine for $11000 with 115000km on it about 4 months ago, so this one's a steal!

Isn't that the 'Runx' for people that have too many kids? Not sure he's after that model, could be wrong though.

That one's too expensive in my opinion. I just bought an Allex RS180 (same car) off Trademe last week for $10200. Black, manual, good kms. I looked for a while. If you keep looking, you should be able to get a decent one for around the 10k mark.

You can get them with a rear skirt as well - that one is missing the rear skirt, which makes a big difference to the look of the car imo.
