Had a go in one today. It's a great little car but didn't live up to the hype IMO. It *felt* like a sports car but didn't act like one. With better suspension and more power it could be a different story but I can't see myself going out to get one anytime soon.

i0nic you were only dissapointed because you didn'get out to use it in the right invironment.
I too at first was dissapointed with them. But now I have done some 2000km in them and the engines are loosening up a bit more they are definetly getting better.
I would suggest if you get a chance to drive these go and hunt down your local back block roads with as many turns and undulations.
The more turns and twists the bigger the smile.
86 will be the beginning of the new hot sports car to modify, and will be just like the AE86. For a mass produced vehicle these in standard form are great. Watch out when the mod's start happening these will become weapons.
86 will be the refreshening off Toyota's previous great sports cars.

Firefly nice work. What colour have you gone for? You won't be dissappointed.
My budget won't let me and neither will the wife.
Just glad I get full use of them before they go on sale.

Are you driving the silver one spotted around Wellington?

I went for pegasus white + the TRD body kit. I'm totally in love with all the images of the TRD version, and I like the contrast of the black parts on the white.

Firefly, I didn't know you could go for the TRD kit option. How much extra was it and what model did you go for? Cheers

Could we order this stuff through our local dealers at these prices? (Just to avoid shipping?)

Yeah anything you see on http://trdparts.jp/english/86_performan ... index.html is available from the TRD shop @ North Shore Toyota. Just contact Nick there and he'll work out a price depending on whether you want it installed/not, or painted/not.

I'm not sure what the rules are about posting to other forums, but if you search around FT86club in the NZ/AUS forums, you'll find some pricing for TRD parts there.

What I'm going for a is "poor man's TRD86" with:
- GT86
- TRD aero kit
- twin tips on the standard exhaust
- plastidip the standard rims

I figured that I'd much rather get used to the car (spec-wise) as it is, and then slowly build it up and have an appreciation for what each upgrade provides. Instead of blowing it all at the start and then getting bored :P

You should come down when I pick it up, no doubt Ares will be there too :)

I'm not too sure what price your local dealer would charge but yeah you can.

Toyota haven't given any RRP's on these, just cost + GST so they would be the best we could do Scott.

Monoblock brake kit, and wheels to go with it, since you can't do it any other way, then you'll know what needs to be tightened up when you feel what moves around when you use them.

The Brembo kit looks good as does the wheels and tyres, I spotted TNZ are upgrading one on the Facebook page.

Cant see why they didn't just build it properly to start with but each unto their own. Some people like modding things.

Was told I my be able to take a test drive of a car late next month and if I want one in the full spec there may be a waiting list

Thats pretty much it...I guess its one of those cars that they expect owners to personalise.
I guess they'll just be erring on the side of caution WRT waiting list. I doubt they'll sell THAT fast.

There is now a whole lot more information with Models, Spec, Technical details and accessories on the official NZ 86 website: http://www.the86.co.nz/

Some sweet photos of the TRD Special Edition on there too. 8)

Also at the list price these are already a pretty well specced car, they've probably had to cut some corners! My parents put their deposit down without even seeing one in the metal. I think they'll sell pretty well if that's anything to go by, waiting list for the GT86 manual in Aus is already 18 months...

TRD Monoblock Brake Kit = $17.5k
TRD SF2 Wheels = $7k

.... I think they'll be a little way down my list :P
