price check on 89 FXGT

Postby rollaholic » Thu Jul 19, 2012 9:54 pm

hey all, interested in your opinions.

friend of the family has failed their driving test (elderly) so they are gonna sell their car.

its an 89 FXGT with 171k on the clock. they have owned it for donkeys and apparently are good with servicing etc. im told it is quite tidy on the body front, rust free etc. has been garaged.

sadly, its auto :(

what do we all think its worth?

cheers

On TM I'd go at least $3000. Personally, I value it around $2000. Old as they may be, they're still sought after for first cars or cheap daily drivers so being tidy and well-serviced will help its' chances immensely.

Yeah that was my ball park figure too. Being auto isn't bad selling point really. There will be just as many people that need a car to be auto, just a different market.

If I wanted it to actually sell, $2200 unless it's particularly tidy, or particularly untidy. Auto does indeed totally kill the value of an FXGT.

And thats still pretty good money for a 23 year old car really. Only in NZ would a 23yo auto FWD be worth more than scrap value.

That's the joy of a Corolla.

If it has a WOF, and it isn't on fire, it's probably worth more than $1500 even if it's only a carby 1300 EE.

yeah, i sort of thought that the fact its a corolla would help over ride the auto FXGT thing.

different buyers obviously, but still worth something.

im not sure if its smallport or not, have not actually seen it myself. just going on what the old man described to me over the phone.
