heres one that hasnt been pointed out yet

spend money on it.

clearly, CLEARLY this guy knows how to make it go faster. OBVIOUSLY he should get a new exhaust, intake, suspension etc. etc.

maybe he is asking, what do you guys recommend the best upgrades to start off with are. As a blacktop owner what did you guys find made the most difference to your blacktops and what would you upgrade first if you had to go down that path again.

I know he didnt ask that but then at least if you guys answer that question, he could actually learn something.

I for one have not actually done anything to mine yet other then rebuild the engine (that gave it a huge boost in performance) so i could be interested in these answers too.

Not many people spend big $$$ on them as the gains aren't that great for the investment needed in N/A form.

This is how you make power while keeping it N/A:
viewtopic.php?t=67634

Most people that want power from them tend to slap a turbo on. Similar money, much, much bigger power. Much more drivable end result too. Not taking anything away from the N/A build above though as it's pretty mint!

My opinion anyway.

And as good as result as Daniel's car was, thats on par with a stock 2ZZGE and just off a stock B18CR. 2ZZ conversion would be pretty awesome

awesome, ive seen that on performance cars website, but did not know that was on here. cheers for that, will be a good read

ae111 blacktops = fast but if you want to go a lot faster you need to look into an MR2 or something

They are good for what they are, which is a 1600 N/A motor. Drive something decent with a turbo and you'll no longer consider them all that fast  If I want to go faster I will sell mine and buy a faster car. Easiest / cheapest way.

But anyways, every possible mod has been covered now above, so lets see what they end up with 8)

yeah i used to think levins were bloody fast but I got taken in my mrs stepdads commodore (black holden commodore ute, supercharged LS1, license plate is NYTMRE if anyone here from welly has seen it?) that has 550hp at the wheels, and DEAR GOD that thing was a work of satan

now i look at my levin as just a "nippy little car" but they are still good fun to drive

considering the black top is an evoloution of an engine baced in the 80s i think it goes very well. if a honda engine comparison is to be made then it should be based on an engine with an evolutionary history starting in the 80s and ending in the 90s.

simply comparing a 4age to a b18c or k20a is like comparing a sad asmatic born in the 60s ford winsor in an AU falcon to an all alloy LS1 in a commodore.

As for 4age mods, start with a lighter flywheel. This will help with throttle responce making it "feel" faster. rest is simple, cold air intake and full larger exhaust.

If you want more power, make internal mods to rev it harder and make it last. when finished there will be nothing left in the engine that hasnt been either replaced or modified. This is why its expensive to do this kind of work

Its not all about straight line performance, a BT ae111 can be a very fun car to really enjoy in some twisty roads. Lots of quick gear changes, keeping it in the power band etc etc. I bet a decent ae111 and driver could have some fun with 550hp ute in the twisties. In a straight line it just won't keep up but why should that matter... how far can you drive without turning the steering wheel?

Pfft the key to making a blacktop go fast is keep it simple. good gains can be.made from replacing leads, caps, dizzy and possibly coil (made 30kw difference on the ae82) decent timing and plugs make a difference same as an O2 sensor and ecu eyed temp sensor. do all this first to make sire you've got a good base to start from.

then its simple; extractors, good intake with cai, 2.25inch exhaust for basic mods, 2.5 for over 200hp. replace with silvertop rods if possible.

if its starting to her serious then trd headgasket, o/s valves and some big cams and cam gears. Daniels car made good power but is pretty indrivable when i drove it. got some cams made for the ae82 and it is completely drivable and makes the same power on standard rods and pistons. do your research

hope this is what someone was looking for.

i heard that the xr6 turbo ecu holds it back because they didnt want it to be faster then their flagship xr8, you just need to get it unlocked at a tuners and then they will smack around an xr8 falcon

id be willing to bet a XR6T running on 4 cylinders would still smoke a balcktop..

they are not fast. quick maybe, fast no, fun yes, good in the twisties yes, fast no.

end of story

Yep. But either way comparing it with an NA 20v in anything over 800kg is folly. Will be tuning my flatmates XR6T as some point though, looking forward to that.
